Beating the Black dragon in the first chapter.....

Just purchased DQ11 and started the game and wonder if you can slay the dragon. Spent almost 24 hours of gameplay grinding my hero to reach level 21. Damn by the way I played this on PS4 so I didn't use codes to weaken the dragon or buff my Hero. However I purchased the Edition of light version which contains 3 skill seeds and a healer which add 2 armor and 4 charms I think and healing the Hero 3 HP per turn. Also the supplicant which gives you same attribute as healer but recovers your MP by 1 per turn instead. Anyways enjoy my suffering.

I think it's Toriyama's idea since I also played some dragon ball Z games where you're not suppose to beat some enemy but you somehow managed to beat it. It also had a semi alternate scenes where you actually beat him/her kinda ending.

And learn the dragon's pattern and you'll good to go , however I won't recommend this when it's your first playthrough though. The luminary will literally be an OP Isekai character in most of the anime and it sucks due to luminary one hitting monsters.

​@@Big_Dai Aw, come on. Don't diminish it. It's not hard, but it is time consuming. Homie spent 24 hours grinding to level 21 in a segment of the game where you're typically below level 10. And the fact that there is a unique cutscene means that the devs definitely knew there would be people insane enough to grind for that long just to have a 30 minute battle with this enemy early in the game. Sure, it's not hard, but it's something I will never, ever do. If you've got the time or the commitment to pull this off, props. I just come back later in the game and fuck him up. lol

@@JunSupraDepends, in some cases yes, for example with the typical background guy walking the same direction twice in like no time, specially when they are not the classic face you can mistake. That aside, I get your point, and even though you're right, and it's a very insignificant detail, it is something a bit annoying, specially if it's a charachter that then joins your party, and not just some random guy that tags along for a couple fights, in which case you could argue that you don't really know how strong that guy actually is.

This is what is called a failsafe method of doing something, it might not be ideal in terms of immersion but it is the better option when you start exploring other solutions. The same goes for your infinite healing items solution, why no longer infinite healing items? This is such a small thing to complain about too since this is *clearly* not the intended way to handle this situation, the fact that they added a cutscene JUST IN CASE is props enough to them. Every game has something stupid like this, you just have to find it. Uncontrollable NPCs (at the time) in games are almost always immortal unless you mission is literally to escort them to safety, then they might die but then you'd have to reload and try again.

One thing I've always respected about Dragon Quest and didn't find out until years later (to my disappointment) _isn't_ industry standard is the amount of logic checking they have to allow players to do unusual things if they want, like beating the first game without rescuing the princess, or carrying her with you all the way to DracoLord's throne without returning to the castle, and the game's dialog changing in some ways to reflect this. (It really _should have been_ allowed for you to tell her you don't love her without the infamous "But thou must!" but on the other hand, that kinda means that she's a very driven and willful person and gives her a bit of personality)

Dragonquest is one of those games what will never lose its charm not because of art or story. But the ability to take the piss out of things. In DQ11 you open a wardrobe and take 100 Gold, then in the same house you talk to someone, and they say, "man its so great i managed to have a savings, and i stuffed it upstairs!" And you just walk out of that house knowing you not only commited theft, but had to because its an RPG mechanic to be a Kelptomanic doing so.

One of my personal favorites was in Dragon Quest 8 when Red sends you out to get the Venus Tear. It's entirely possible to have already gotten that item if you did some serious exploring and sequence breaking. If you do, after you leave the house, Trode will ask "Are we not in possession of the Venus’ tear? Why didn’t you just give it to her?" Yangus: Nah! You don’t get it, do ya grandad? We’ve gotta make ‘er think we’re goin’ to the cave for ‘er, see. We gotta play it cool. Otherwise she ain’t gonna think we’ve done nuffin’ special. She won’t ‘ave no gratistude!" So you pretend to go off on a quest then come back later.

You can choose just not to search there for the most part and it only makes the difference of grinding a couple more battles, if that. The game just doesn't directly punish you by having NPC guards throw you in jail or lock you out of stuff based on your morality.

You wanna talk about logic checking, they did it back in the NES days too. In Dragon Warrior 3, there is a battle where a very important NPC faces one of the final boss' lieutenants. It is mathematically impossible for the NPC to win. However, if you go out of your way to make the NPC win with a cheating device such as a Game Genie, the game goes "NPC has won, but in winning seems to have spent his last ounce of power.". Pretty impressive for the time.

The vast majority of people will not enjoy what it takes to complete this challenge, and so it's better for the game not to give any extrinsic motivation to push them into doing it anyways. According to the wiki it has a chance of dropping serpent soul. One of the only creatures to drop it naturally before the after game secret dungeons. It's an ingredient to craft legendary armor. The irony of having it at the start of the game and can't craft it haha.

I've been having so much fun replaying this game with all of the Draconian Quest restrictions, and I've had so much fun seeing things like different cutscenes play out when you do things like have the Hero beat the black dragon or have Rab beat Grandmaster Pang when about to train to learn Pearly Gates. Even with saying "no" to one's significant other at the top of Cobblestone Tor, I am so happy to have such a fun game with so much voice acting. Now I want to get to the point where the name Erdrick is considered by the parents for the luminary to see if something different happens there as well with a save file with the Hero named Erdrick.

It's not the first time Square Enix/Square soft did this so I figured during my first gameplay that it's beatable so I did it and recorded it. You just have to be lucky and patient on grinding but I wouldn't recommend this if it's the first time to play the game which is what I did and almost all chapters of the game and some early boss fights ended in either 1 turn or in the 5th.

@@Folkvarart Nothing, you just have to be patient and if your hero is strong enough he'll learn multi fire spell that hits all enemies. Use that and if you get even stronger just use the fire spell that hits only all same enemies instead of all since the MP consumption of that is lower. I recommend you hunt down Lamplings since they sometimes spawn 5 or 6 if I remember correctly and you just hit them all at once and the exp you get is much higher than others. Only if they are available. Just beat all monsters and gain levels. If the exp gap is too long to fill, try to challenge yourself that you'll only save if you Everytime you gain some level. In my case I visit the kingdom and go to Inn to sleep and save Everytime I run out of MP.

Dying to get this game as a new Dragon Quest fan. I had an old on (1-4?) On Gameboy but that was the extent of me playing the game before. A Chrono trigger remake like this would be a dream come true.

I just started DQ11 and KZbin recommended me this. Wow, this battle is actually possible and... not that unreasonable? Only 24 hours of grinding? IIRC it's like 40-50+ and insane luck needed for the early Dragon Quest VII "impossible" battles. Although you get nothing for beating those, it continues as if you lost. Really neat they throw a cool cutscene here for it and that Hooded Stranger and the Luminary just casually stroll out. :)

@@BTG25 there actually is. in the definitive edition, if you switch between 2D and 3D, you can go to any point in your adventure, with all of your items, barring story based items. you can even return to the beginning by doing this.

When you get to like the sewers part, the guards that originally chased you are at the top. You can grind them for exp because they respawn. At least I remember them respawning. Hopefully that helps anyone :v

But the thing is they don't have a save point and if I remembered correctly. Guards even when your at 15-20 would still hurt your MC. So for me it's best to just farm for Lunplings and hope it's 5 spawns so you can multicast fire spell to one shot all of them.

This is the only RPG that doesn’t soft lock you for winning a battle you weren’t supposed to win. I am seriously impressed at the Devs for this and this game continues to be my favorite JRPG. It’s my first dragon quest and first JRPG but wow! Can anyone recommend me another great JRPG

If you like turn base RPG then I'd recommend you try persona 3 upto 5. When you got addicted to it then try persona 2 eventually going to Shin Megami Tensei or simply SMT. Legend of heroes trails in the skies and Trails of cold steel would be nice as well with great stories of it. It is so long that the game have multiple sequels to it. If you're like an action game type of gamer then I'd suggest you play an action RPG such as the Final Fantasy Vii crisis core for PSP or it's remake version of crisis core reunion. There's this amazing RPG called Y's series and it's made by Falcom which is the same company that made Legend of heroes trails in the skies and Trails of cold steel. I recommend you try atleast 3 of the Tales series such as tales of vesperia, tales of berseria, tales of eternal, I haven't played Tales of arise which is the latest release so I can't recommend it to you yet. God eater is a good alternative for Monster hunter with anime style. If you're more into hardcore JRPG like dark souls then Code Vein is for you. The Dragon Quest 12 is on the way to be released and I think it would be an action rpg or semi action style rpg.

this bring me memories of final fantasy 12, in the lhusu mines you are not supposed to defeat the ones that are trying to capture you, but the creators added a very small cutscene in case someone was crazy enough to defeat them.

To be fair, it wasn't all that impressive of a fight but it highlighted the ability to stick to the basic/core aspects of fighting. Attack -> Guard -> Heal. This was against a dragon that was more bark than bite. I feel his statement was accurate.
