Finally beat this guy last night on my first playthrough. I know I haven't beaten it on NG+ yet, but it was pretty difficult, however, I think it's been over hyped a little bit (even though I literally was out of all estus flasks, used a ember halfway through the fight as another way to heal and when I killed him I had no health left almost, one hit from anything from this boss would have probably killed me) anyway, I was not expecting to beat him the time that I did. I wasn't doing very well against the dragon and when I got to the actual boss I wasn't exactly doing everything perfect but I managed to come out on top, barely. I was wearing the armor that I always wear (wolf knight armor, with farram helm, black iron gauntlets and silver knight leggings. I used the knights ring that gives you strength, the other rings were lightning resist, ring of favor and the quick stamina recovery one as well. for my weapons I used heavy dark sword +10 and dragons crest shield+5. I also had maxed estus flasks and maxed undead bone shards burned. My total strength was about 50. my Vigor was 40, vitality was 36 endurance was 37, everything else was very low. I also use the spell that gives my weapon fire damage) So I was a bit overleveld for this fight to say the least so I definitely struggled with this boss quite a bit, I feel like I struggled with the pontiff a little more though. I did find that the dragon can be very easy, I've beat the dragon quite a few times without taking any damage at all. The trick is to stay more or less in front of the dragons face. I definitely noticed that if I went anywhere underneath it, it would take off in the air and breathe fire down which was extremely hard to dodge. Staying in front of its face makes it more of a normal, fair fight. I just had to learn his moves so I could dodge or block them and once he hits the ground with his spear or the dragon breathes fire while on the ground are perfect opportunities to slash at its face and you will be able to stun it pretty quickly leaving it open to run up and gouge it's eye doing quite a bit of damage. (just never get greedy with trying to get too many hits in on this boss it will surely destroy you) Once you learn the dragons patterns he is very easy to take down. Then the actual boss comes down. While he is very hard and has a lot of life, I noticed the more I tried the better I got, obviously, but don't expect to do well your first try of the night! I always went in expecting to die the first few times I would go in. But once I got the hang of dodging his attacks and learning his patterns I slowly gained the confidence to believe that I could beat him. I've watched some videos of people able to stun the boss once he's off his dragon, I was not able to do so. I don't think I hit him enough in quick succession to do that. Dodging his attacks and trying to get around to his backside works pretty good. Keeping range between you and him can work out sometimes, but I noticed myself getting stabbed and lifted up into the air while impaled on his spear quite often. I get my distance when I need to, and then I'll go back to dodging him up close and trying to get behind him. One of the best opportune times to slash at him is when he goes into the air (and stays there for a good minute, the move where he comes down immediately is followed immediately by another attack.) is the best time to get multiple hits it, Other than that I would just hit him once, MAYBE twice. Once you get him to half health, as you all saw in the video, he does some lightning spells, which, I thought, were much easier to dodge then his very aggressive ones and leaves him having a lot more down time. Just be sure you actually do dodge his lighting spells cause they do pack quite a punch. Anyway, this is my first dark souls game and I absolutely loved it. I'm gona go back and play the others ones eventually, but I am going to start NG+ pretty soon and get frustrated at this dude all over again.

The reason this boss was hard is because of the horrendous camera work. Not a big fan of being punished for not being able to see what the boss is doing. Also the nameless king, he has 2 moves that startup identically, but do different things, you have to end up guessing which one the boss will do.

A big advice for anyone trying any boss: use tears of denial miracle. That spell saved me countless times and I don't think I would have won without it so easily. Also you can rest at the bonfire after you use that spell and still active (and you can use it once more).

I beat this guy this morning and wanted to offer my advice. First of all, try to get all 15 estus flasks or it's going to be nearly impossible. I had 11 going in, so looked up a video showing all estus flask locations and made sure I had them all. Second, don't be overwhelmed by the dragon fight. It's actually pretty easy. After I beat it once, I beat it on every turn. TNK was hard and kept killing me. I watched a few videos and learned to be patient with my rolls. Now here is the most important tip and what helped me the most. I found that rolling backwards is the best thing to do with this boss, especially when he does his thust attacks. If you roll backwards, most of the time he won't hit you. Just in case mash the roll back button. This also helps you get far away from TNK and since the area is pretty large, you will have time to sip from the estus flask. What I did was mostly wait for his flying attacks, that were a lot easier to dodge, then got 1 or 2 hits in. After he gets to 50% health he adds some new lightning tricks but I found them pretty easy to dodge. In the end. I had to use all my 15 estus + an ember when I was near the end of my health and beat him.

A small tip regarding the camera. One should stay to the front and keep their lockon on the Nameless King instead of Stormdrake, you'll be able to dodge his attacks more easily. Then unlock when you want to attack the head. I died so many times to this boss but got phase 1 down pat thanks to this tip.

Ornstein is the dragon. After Gwyn hollowed, Ornstein left to find The Nameless King, the original man who trained him. Ornstein followed the path of the dragon and become the Nameless King's ride: AKA the King of the Storm. That's why you get to buy Ornstein's armor after killing the Nameless king: You killed Him, and his dragon (Ornstein).

Maybe I've gone insane from attempting this guy for so long but I think most of this fight is just rhythm. Like in the first phase, you have to be unlocked. When he starts lifting off, the tail moves in a certain way so you instantly know to run. When he is flying around and throws lightning you have to dodge when the sound effect is at a certain point. Honestly, the second phase was mostly hard because it was difficult to get muscle memory as it was the second phase. For me, it worked to keep at medium range and only attack when he dived because the up close 3 hit combo was just too punishing and he won't use it if you are farther away. Also, with the attack where he calls down lightning, he puts his spear in the air, and then like a tenth of a second later you dodge and it will miss every time. Anyways, great video. I agree, this guy is probably the hardest boss in DS3.

use the dragonslayer greatshield it has 95% electricity resistance and high stability so the boss becomes a piece of cake also i reccomend that u only lock on to him when he starts flying and then fight manually when he lands so u can see his attacks while u hit the dragon's head at phase 2 only block when he is about to attack so u keep your stamina up don't worry about his wind wave attacks the shield completly nullefies the damage of it and remember don't forget to drop your shield and always side strafe the boss it makes him miss a few attacks

I honestly don't find this boss that difficult. Pontiff is a lot more troubling with his spacing based combos that won't have any telegraphs for certain attacks, and his 4 - 6 attack combos when his clone is out.

All of Nameless King's attacks have easy to read telegraphs, so there isn't all that much to memorize, and the way his combos work is pretty easy to understand. He's about as hard as DS1's DLC bosses, if not easier due to the improved gameplay mechanics.

that is simply not true. His 3 most common combos have the same starting animation for a slow and a fast attack and he has a uncommon additional attack to all his combos. It is also not possible to safely trigger special moves with accurate positioning. Sulyvan on the other hand has both - he is still one of the hardest bosses in the franchise but u defenetly got lucky with the namelss king if u didnt notice that.

The first two attacks of his combo are either slow or fast, and the third one is always an attack that has an easy to read telegraph, whether it be the thrusting one, which he can repeat up to 4 or 5 times if you stay in front of him, or the lightning stake. There's no reason to memorize any of it when all of his attacks can be reacted to, since the telegraphs are no different from DS1 attack telegraphs. The only telegraphs that are a bit trickier are the ones during the dragon fight, since they have very misleading windup animations with a lot of waiting time and unnecessary movement. He seems to randomly do his special attacks though, excluding the first one he does when goes to second phase, and even then you can pretty much just react to them without any problems. If you think I got lucky, I've beaten every single boss in the game with a pickaxe, without taking any damage (I have video proof on my channel). I rarely have any problems with Nameless King, while Pontiff makes me nervous since the combo attacks with the clone are rather tricky to avoid. I honestly have no idea how to avoid his 4 - 6 attack combos when he is synced with his clone.

beat this boss today he was the hardest boss for me, used the black blade thunder ring and the carthus bloodring ( boosts rolling invincibility) i found that staying close and turning around him was easier than keeping distance. and the ring helps alot ,for if you screw up your roll timing it will give u an extra invincibility time.

... Okay... so I tried beating the boss like... 15 times with my broadsword/shield dragonslayeraxe/shield combo and got decimated every single time. After watching this video I pulled out the Gundyr's Halberd and +4'd it. Soloed it and only used 3 estus flasks. The camera is the biggest obstacle in the fight. With the strat I used ANYBODY can beat him without breaking a sweat. Just that shitty targeting to deal with.

Idk about HARDEST, but definitely difficult. I beat him second try, move set is pretty basic, gets kind of OP during the second stage though. I found Sulyvahn to be the hardest one, dude has some stupid combos to work past.

+Pierce Hintz Saying that your starting class is a mercenary doesn't really tell us anything unless you actually use duel-wielding type weapons in end game battles. If someone asks you wham at build is your character, you should reply with "oh I'm a str and int build that uses large swords. For example: my starting class is a Knight but ended up making a dex build that uses estoc, Black Pharis bow, and onislayer gb. You can imagine that this boss fight will be a little harder for me solo (also I'm at level 62 with only 20 vigor).

If you didnt figure it out already: the fire spitting attack can be dodged if you RUN away from the boss, rolling isn't fast enough you have to sprint away. it doesn't matter in which direction, but you have to be able to read the boss so you can determine when to begin running. I agree that this boss is the hardest in the whole game by far. You have to be able to stay in melee range and react-dodge pretty well to kill him efficiently.

+Tetra Ninja Hmm I don't know why you say he is the hardest boss in the game. He's most fun to fight I admit, but I myself didn't had much trouble with him. Won't lie, I didn;t kill him on my first try, but all it took me around 10 minutes to finish that boss (or even less, I didn;t count the time) . I was using Reinforced Dark Sword +9(dark Damage is over 2/3 of whole damage, all is over 200 not counting scaling) and Shield of Want, plus Xanthous's set with Northerner Helm. In first phase I stayed under the Storm King and was doing around 250 dmg with light attacks to the head. With weapon fast like this, he died pretty quickly. In second phase I also stayed near the king, and was mostly just whacking at him, doing around the same ammount of damage, staggered him twice or thrice, dodged few attacks, or blocked if I was too slow. High Vigour and upgraded estus flask is a must, not only for this boss but in general from what I experienced (especially if you're not good with dodging).

That boss soul also can be traded for the Storm Curved Sword if you either are not a fan of spears or have low faith. If you guys want to block an attack you are struggling with (hard to dodge etc) try the Dragonslayer Greatshield. The shield has a 38 strength requirement, blocks 100% physical and 95% lightning; with a stability of 74 it's incredible. I had to use it to often block his sky bolt attack.

It wasn't hard at all for me. Killed it on 2nd try. Throw your shield away, two hand your weapon and start dodging. He has telegraphic attacks. Although, i've played way too much Vindictus for these kind of bosses to feel actually challenging lol. Dancer shits on this boss imo.

You can dodge the fire. When you hear the dragon roar, you must run away in the direction he's pointing. By that point, if you've timed it right you will be out of dragon fire range. You MUST run in the direction the head is point. Also, the timing is strict. But with practice, it can be done.

this boss is the best boss in dark souls history. badass design and heluva fight. took me over 3 hours to beat him but the oh so satisfying feeling of beating him was so worth it.

The most dificult part of this bossfight is the camera and the ground. It is sodificult to judge where you are sometimes, the camera can go inside the dragon in the first phase and due to the floor heavy deorientation is almost programmed. It's a nasty case of virtual dificulty. Plus the hitboxes from the thing are waaay off. The lightning groundpound can hit you when you are as far back as in between the dragons legs, when he breathes fire whilst on the ground it can hit you while you are standing behind his head slashing at his throat and the groundpound flame attack is very hard to dodge, as the fainted flicker of fire in your direction can and will cause 100% damage. In theory what you need to do is as soon as he rises up you start rolling away from him. And this is just the first phase- The second phase was much easier for me, like the dragonslayer armor i had an easier time being real up close to him and bashing him with drang hammers after each dodge. However that is just my personal preference. And I would not recommend the twin hammers in the first half because the reach is way to shorrt and you will miss a lot due to the camera.

Little note for people struggling with the boss the Shield of a lothric knight also has 100 phys defense and 89 lightning defense, you should still try to roll the his attacks but its pretty nice incase u cant, you can still block almost all of his damage with this, it also has by far lower stat reqs than havels.

A tip on dodging fire, run straight ahead infront of his head, if you run to the side or back (like if you where facing his tail when he flies and you starting running away in the tail direction you'll get hit.

This guy was definitely the hardest in DS3 for me as a Pyromancer. For those that need help as pyromancers, for first phase I used only melee dodging left towards the neck of the dragon between attacks. I used the fallen knight armor set, Dragon crest shield for the dragon flames so I can block it and run up and hit the head. Rings, the two pyromancy rings, thunder stoneplate (for second phase) and Chloranthy ring for stamina. For second phase I only used pyromancy using Black fire orb only, its casting speed is good for this fight. Keep walking backward to get him to walk and hit him with it. Good luck and Git Gud.

I found twin prince's to be the most difficult in the game. But I'm a Knight without a shield when I did this, so my only way of playing it defensively was to get the dodging for him down. took me an hour to masterfully dodge everything and kill him and his brother.

My first try on him was on NG+ because I didn't even remotely know this area was in the game. If you're a faith build this fight will be much easier. I made it after the fifth try. I used the lightning clutch ring, morne's ring and the ring of the first born. With this setup it takes like 2-3 Sunlight Spears and a riposte to wreck the King of the Storm. After that you can run just a bit back and switch out all the rings and buff yourself to engange melee combat. There are many moves from that you can easily dodge so it's just a matter of muscle memory. And with the free riposte you can get if you pounded the Nameless King hard enough this gets even easier. I had a way harder time with Champion Gundyr, Pontiff Sulyvahn and the Dancer. But I guess that just shows how big the build and RNG can make a difference in results. xD

If you're a melee build, use dragonslayer greatshield. It's big help and can block almost all of his attacks if you have the stamina. It's all about timing and keeping your stamina up.

I tip my hat to everyone that was able to solo this guy. I've beaten every single boss solo in Dark Souls 3 except the Nameless King lol. I had to coop because the " King of the Storm" camera kept getting me destroyed lol. My phantom helped me in he 2nd half in the "King of the Storm" phase, and he stood back and allowed me to fight the Nameless King solo in the 2nd phase which was awesome. Also in coop, bosses are buffed in attack strength, health, and your attacks are nerfed. Basically I fought an even harder Nameless King now that I think about it lol.

As long as you are always in front of the Wyvern it will never use that attack (fire from above). I am pretty sure that attack is there just to punish the players from previous titles where the best strategy was to just sit at their feet and hit them till they die. If you notice when you hit its feet you do significantly less damage than if you hit it literally anywhere else on its body. Also when it does its horizontal fire you can actually roll through it from left to right without taking any damage, making it much easier to NOT trigger the other fire attack (since you don't have to get behind the head to hit it).

From my experience, the dragon won't do that fire attack as long as you don't stand too close to/ underneath it. This helped me a lot. Plus, I only had 8 estus flasks when I did this boss and the final boss.
