It's been a journey, Andrew, and I've enjoyed following along every minute! Like you, my estimation of Let It Be has certainly gone up in recent years due to the box set and the Get Back documentary. But what really put it up there for me was Paul "reuniting" with John on I've Got a Feeling on the Got Back tour and at Glastonbury. It's a testament to the phenomenal, ageless chemistry John and Paul had, and the Let It Be album is steeped in it. And FWIW, I love Hold Me Tight! It's an absolute all-out rocker that threatens to burst apart at the seams at any moment, but the Beatles hold it all together through sheer will and talent.

Watched it and I'm so impressed with your methodical approach. I love list-making too and the pleasure of watching your effort was enormous. An interesting thought about the vocal harmonies on Beatles For Sale. Vocal harmonies have always been my favourite aspect of rock music and I love analysing them. Definitely the arrangements of the harmonies on that album are really inventive and surpassing the Merseybeat average, but did you notice how George's voice is missing there? Yes, he only sings backing vocals on What Youre Doing and Hey Hey Hey Hey (the response vocals feature the only three-part harmony on this album!) plus obviously the lead on the album closer. My Beatles ranking: 1-2. Revolver 1-2. Abbey Road (the winner changes from day to day - "Revolver" was also the first cassette I bought in 1988) 3. Magical Mystery Tour 4. White Album 5. Rubber Soul 6. Sgt. Pepper 7. Beatles For Sale 8. With the Beatles 9. Help! 10. Yellow Submarine (I know (I know)...) 11. Please Please Me 12. A Hard Day's Night (the only Beatles album I find overrated) 13. Let It Be (the only Beatles album I can say I partially dislike, though it was great to see the love for One After 909 in your video) It was also most interesting to see how particular solo albums dented into your Beatles ranking. My favourite solo album will probably be Chaos & Creation, but I would put it as - relatively - low as #7, that's how strong my Beatles Top6 is. As I mentioned in the other comment, The Beatles were my first musical love. I don't think there is any other group I would have such detailed knowledge of the songs and facts. Still, at the age of 48 I find myself drifting further and further from their music. Last year I compiled a list of My 100 Favourite Songs (it's one of the playlists on my channel). The following Beatles & solo tracks made it: #98. Long-Haired Lady #91. At the Mercy (or some other track from Chaos, I compiled the list with albums in mind too) #53. And Your Bird Can Sing #36. Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey #11. Help! (live version) #10. the Abbey Road medley This was a list with strong personal theme, not necessarily reflecting my rank of individual Beatles songs (of which She Said She Said would definitely beat And Your Bird Can Sing), but these lists change so fast, which is another excuse to make another one :) Gerard

I always enjoy watching your videos and listening to your views Andrew and I have enjoyed this one. For me ranking The Beatles albums is an impossible task as each album was a step forwards up till Revolver and even then each album was different from the last. It's incredible to think any band could record an album like Please Please Me then 6 years later Abbey Road. What a fantastic achievement! As for comparing albums by any band or artist from the 60's with their 70's output, it simply can't be done in my opinion unless you are just talking about songs. I could go on and on with this subject and it would be pointless as we all have our own views. Well done for completing this task Andrew and I look forward to your future videos.

Entertaining to watch the whole ranking series from start to finish. Great work! I would love to see a separate ranking of the Beatles singles. So many people rank the albums on KZbin, but I've seen very few rank the singles... which is a little sad, because the singles were such a huge part of their legacy. You could just stick to the 22 original UK singles from 1962-1970. Or you could expand into the post-breakup and solo singles too, though it might be best to have a cutoff at the end of the 70s or 80s, since singles weren't as critical once CDs took over.

First up I have joined this ranking party right at the end. So may I commend you on such a brave undertaking and of course these things are entirely subjective.Yes there are things I disagree with (hold me tight, not a second time) and plenty to concur with of course. So rather than be just positive I thought I should be super positive and really focus in on your assessment of The Beatles (the White album). We differ here only in so much as not only is the White album my favourite Beatles record but possibly for me the greatest album ever made sharing a pedestal with such works as Exile on Main Street and Blonde on Blonde. This probably reveals my obsession with the double album as a perfect space for an artist to let go and unleash every facet of their musical identity in one place. Of course I’m always half expecting people to start banging on about what a great single album this would have made! Not a single second is wasted on this record, a work of the most towering genius. Your own comment regarding the desert island aligns with my view that I have always held that the White album is a compilation of musical styles. Finally may I zoom in on something you said that I’ve only ever heard myself thinking or saying. This being the darkness, incredible spooky darkness of side 4. I think of double albums in much the way a gardener thinks when designing a garden, they build rooms. And for me the perfect double album usually consists of four rooms which the White album completely adheres to. This darkness just progresses and grows on side 4 into a work of sheer beautiful sequencing genius. To such a point that my 13-year-old self whom perceived Good Night as a final lightening of mood I am now at odds with. Meaning is in the mind of the listener and over the years I have come to perceive Good Night following on as it does from the nightmarish musique concrete genius of Revolution 9 as a Victorianesque tune about dying children or adults. This of course was not what Lennon had in mind when he wrote it (yes it’s a give-it-to-Ringo childrens lullaby) but perfectly demonstrates how context can alter mood and perception. Congratulations on this rather tough and perhaps, dare I say, foolish undertaking😂, I honestly think I would be stuck from number two onwards in terms of trying to order these revolutionary works. Finally I also concur with you that Plastic Ono Band, Ram and All Things Must Pass are these artists greatest works, the latter being for me the greatest Beatles solo album.

Thanks for your comments, and I absolutely agree, it was a very foolish undertaking! 😄

That was a fun list. Quite the project. I question any solo Beatle album ranking over Magical Mystery Tour. Do the songs on McCartney really outshine MMT? You rank John's solo career way higher than I do. I certainly agree with your points about Plastic On Band. It's a great artistic statement, but not always an enjoyable listen. I bought the deluxe box set of it and I have to admit that I still haven't listened to all of it. It started to depress me and I shelved it. For me McCartney has had the best post Beatles career by a country mile.

Interesting to note that 'Rubber Soul' is known to have greatly influenced Brian Wilson's 'Pet Sounds'. However, it recently dawned on me that the version of 'Rubber Soul' that Wilson was listening to was the U.S. Capitol version of 'Rubber Soul' which has a different track listing than the one we're used to in the UK. The US version is a little more ballardy than the UK. Worth a listen.

Andrew, The Beatles Historian Mark Lewisohn was talking about their first 4 albums and he said he played the first 3 a lot. The 4th not so much. But over the years Beatles For Sale has grown on him more and more. So these day's if he decides to play one of the early ones. More often than not it will be Beatles for Sale. He said he's sad that it a does'nt get the respect it deserves because it's just a great record. "It's a great time capsule, from covers from their Hamburg day's right upto new songs for the L.P." Cheers, Chris Perry.

Agree on Pepper being number 1. I'd have Ram at number 2. I'm not such a ATMP fan due mostly to how many skips I do on that album. It's not even my top 5 George album. I do think some of those other George albums are a bit low for me. But all different tastes. My biggest hot take though would probably be Egypt Station. That's top 10 for me out of all albums. I think its a phenomenal record. And Brainwashed would be high also for me. Really enjoyed your video

Hey Andrew , Great series , Great placings .. The only thing is, think the RINGO albums deserves a higher placing. I would fit it somewhere in the top 15. I have always thought it was a top rank solo Beatle album. Take Care. Go and listen to RINGO again , you will be glad you did . Ha Ha Ha..

Hi Andrew Just for fun and out of curiosity I wonder where you would have tanked: "Yellow Submarine Songtrack" or "Get Back" had it been issued originally as it appeared on the LET IT BE boxset.

Fun video series, hats off to you for compiling it. But I think you shortchanged a few of George’s better solo albums. Material World and Cloud Nine in particular. Your love of solo Paul is fine with me, but how can Wild Life top Cloud Nine? And Concert for Bangladesh ranks well below several Macca B-tier live sets? Oh well at least one George album got its due!

Dark Horse 94 and Mind Games 63??? Harsh! Sometime in NYC 37 is a load of tripe. I’d place it as my worst Beatles solo album. Great effort though in pulling this together Andrew!

Nice ranking, Ricardo. One particular area in which I agree with you is that, regardless of where you rank "All Things Must Pass" - and it clearly deserves to be in the Top 10 - in my opinion it is the greatest of all the Beatles solo albums.

@@AndrewDixonMusic It’s been a fantastically thoughtful and entertaining series. Really turned me on to a lot of albums I haven’t really given a chance before

I have done the rankings numerous times throughout my life. There are albums that gel as albums and then albums that technically have more songs I like better, but don't gel as well as an album. Anyway, I finally put all of that aside and settled on a Three Tier ranking, as follows: Top Tier: Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, The Beatles, Abbey Road, Let It Be ... Naked (yep, I'm *that* guy) Middle Tier: Rubber Soul, Magical Mystery Tour Bottom Tier (all still among the greatest albums ever): Please Please Me, With the Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, Beatles for Sale, Help! Yellow Submarine is a glorified EP/gift to George Martin. Cheers on another great video and finally finishing this particular project. Sorry I missed it live (if you did it live, that is), your chats are always fun.
