Followed this and voila! Worked first time. Not soldered since my college days! You can't really go wrong. Buying a soldering iron and shrink tubes was much cheaper than sending it to be repaired or getting a new set of headphones. Just have to glue it shut now.

We use Hakko soldering tools. You can pretty much use any soldering pen though. And for the solder we don’t use a specific type but we do recommend for you to use flux with it also.

Same problem here, I followed vid exactly on two sets of beats that broke a year apart but on both occasions the mike, control button fails to work - in my most recent fix I tried two different replacement jacks both with same outcome = headphones work great but with no button function - could it be the wiring of beats here in the UK is different? - all the soldering looks good I even tried desoldering the mike wire and touching the contact with no success?

These headphones have a terrible cable/connector that fails regularly. They should be repairing these under warranty or using a better quality cable/connector combination. They tend to fail mostly where the cable meets the moulded 3.5mm TRRS plug. I think it’s just the flexible cable in combination with the super thin wires. I’ve had Sony headphones that have lasted for years and not failed like this.
