De-Loused is a concept album based on a short story written by members of the band. It recounts the drug-induced experiences of Cerpin Taxt, a fictional character who enters a coma following an overdose. The bulk of the album deals with his mental voyages during this comatose state (hence the title, ethereal sound, and strange lyrics), with two songs at the beginning and end set in the real world. The story is based on the life and death of Julio Venegas, a friend of the band, who died in 1996.

Produced by Rick Rubin. Mixed by Rich Costey. Flea on bass. John Theodore on drums. All supporting the bombast of Cedric and Omar. Absolute masterwork.

I hope you make it to Amputechture eventually, an absolutely amazing album and very underrated. Probably their jazziest, lots of horns, lots of Coltrane vibes. And arguably their most latin sounding one as well.

essentially the last part is Cerpin jumping to his death, the next two tracks are what happens to his soul, the lyrics of Televators start "just as he hit the ground"

AHAHAH never heard from you something like..."Only shi##". Love The Mars Volta from this first LP album (the first record from them was the Tremulant EP), by the way I love these musicians since At the drive In! this album is magnificent but what impressed me the most was The Bedium Goliath featuring drummer Thomas Pridgen. I have never seen a drummer with so much power and I also saw it live when they came to Portugal, it was a magnificent concert! Thank Jim for remind me TMV again, this is because I've been listening more on a wave of prog sound like Karnivool, Rishloo, Opeth and The Dear Hunter and haven't heard them for a long time...it's time to put them in my spotify list! thank you!

I love how you recognise Flea's bass playing. When i forst heard this album i had no idea Flea was involved, let alone that he played bass on the entire album. But after learning this I started to listen closer and realised how obvious it is in certain parts, particularly during those frenetic jams, it sounds juat like how he would play in a RHCP live jam 😄 if you didnt know, John Frusciante also played some guitar on the album and was heavily involved in the sound manipulation process, which is right in his wheelhouse of course (he also played on Frances the Mute I believe... I know for sure he played the face melting solos on L'Via, they're pure Frusciante style after all 😄)
@evanwright9016
@evanwright9016 11 ай бұрын
Frusciante appears on 3 tracks on Deloused, "L'Via" from Frances, and pretty much every track from their next 3 releases. Omar would write parts for him since his main focus by the time of Goliath was to become more involved in the production process. Sometimes, they would trade leads back and forth.

Lyrics aren’t as important with TMV. VERY unique and interesting but the sound is where most of the substance is. Even Cedric himself says the lyrics are often gibberish that he later turns into words that fit. So the only thing you’re missing out on is a mental exercise of trying to decipher whatever the words may or may not mean haha
@JoriDiculous
@JoriDiculous 2 жыл бұрын
Not gibberish, but he often uses Portmanteau (combining words to form new words like Smog, Motel or the song Noctourniquet), and a lot of of wordplay.
@dakotahrobinson8209
@dakotahrobinson8209 2 жыл бұрын
@@JoriDiculous what I’m referring to is an interview he did. He said that during the first recording of him freestyling vocals over the track he just spits out whatever hes feeling in the moment which is a lot of tunes gibberish. He wanted to keep it like that but Omar told him no one would want to hear that so he goes back later and writes lyrics to fit into the style of what he was singing the first time if that makes sense. I know his lyrics aren’t actually gibberish lol

Don't bother looking up the lyrics, it's basically random words that sound right with the music... Still memorized about 60% of them though.
