BEAULIEU ABBEY & THE PALACE HOUSE (NEW FOREST NATIONAL PARK)

This is a “one off” video of a recent visit that I made to Beaulieu Abbey, the Palace House & the Beaulieu gardens. It was a hot day (30 degrees plus!), so I decided to leave my Whippet (Logan) at home in the cool.
The visit took place in June 2020, just as some of the Covid 19 restrictions where being lifted - however some of the “attractions” were still closed (eg the Motor Museum, the Monorail & inside the Palace House) so that is why the price was just £9.50. I believe that with all the attractions open, the price is now £19.50. You need to bear in mind that dogs are not allowed in the Museum, Palace House or Monorail.
However I was able to explore the Abbey ruins, the outside of the Palace House, the Kitchen & Victorian Gardens, the Clock House, Mill Pond, Ice House, the “Mount”, the canal and a few other surprises.
Basically the video comprises a series of clips & photos of my visit together with a brief commentary (basically me reading notes from the guide book!) that hopefully will give you an idea of what is there & maybe inspire you to visit the place - I can certainly recommend it (especially if the weather is good).
One of the jewels of the New Forest, that is for sure.

Thanks Dave. Been to the Motor museum many times but never the Abbey, Palace house or gardens. I will rectify that omission. In the weather conditions you encountered they look beautiful.

It’s really lovely all around Beaulieu, as the name suggests. I’ve been to a few functions there over the years and have always marvelled at its history. When I last went they were playing recorded Gregorian chanting in the corridors of one of the old buildings - atmospheric and spooky in equal measure! Well done Dave, another little gem.

So happy you returned to Beaulieu & showed us its beauty & history a little closer. Nice that they tried to outline where the Abbey once stood (shame though that the original was ever tore down☹). What buildings remain though you can imagine how great the Abbey must have been. Very pretty grounds. Had to agree w/ you about the hanging mutilated horses...🤔😒😬 Loved the wood carving around the mill pond though as they jsut kind of blended w/ the wildness of the surrounding nature. Liked The Mad Hatters Tea Party topiaries too!😍🤗 That was really fun.🎩👱🏻‍♀️🐇 Thank you for showing us the reader board on the "real Alice." That was a lovely personal touch of history attached to Beaulieu! Old classic cars were great too!😊👍

Thanks. I see that the "inside" attractions are now open again (eg museum etc) ...which means the admission price is no longer £9.50 ..so I think I was fortunate with my timing!

I didn’t know that walk existed. Where is the entrance? So much to see, but you appeared to be the only person in there. Very, very interesting. Must put that on our todo list. Thanks Dave. I hope Logan understood it was too hot for him!

Thanks Lionel. There were restrictions on visitors due to Covid 19 so there was a lot more room to move around. The main entrance is well signposted from the road. I benefited from a reduced entrance fee because all of the "inside attractions" were closed. It wasn't one of my "normal" walks but more of a guide as to what there is to see there.

I have recently found out that my 4x great grandfather lived in one of the Palace Cottages at Beaulieu - I was wondering whether those are the houses seen in the background behind the Mad Hatter's Tea Party?

Looking at a map of the area, I think that the Palace Cottage(s) are to the East of the Abbey ruins. The Mad Hatters Tea Party Topiary, from memory, was in the Victorian Flower Garden - some way to the West of the ruins...... but I am no expert on the site! A fascinating place for your 4X Grandfather to live I imagine.
