This video was filmed at the Beaulieu Motor Museum Spring Autojumble in May 2024. This is not a paid for advertisement, all paid for advertisements are declared on idriveclassic. This is just me having a bit of fun and sharing it with you at home!

About Beaulieu Motor Museum:
The museum was founded in 1952 by Edward Douglas-Scott-Montagu, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, as a tribute to his father, John, 2nd Baron Montagu, who was one of the pioneers of motoring in the United Kingdom, being the first person to drive a motor car into the yard of the Houses of Parliament, and having introduced King Edward VII (then the Prince of Wales) to motoring during the 1890s.
At first, the museum consisted of just five cars and a small collection of automobilia displayed in the front hall of Lord Montagu's ancestral home, Palace House; but such was the popularity of this small display that the collection soon outgrew its home, and was transferred to wooden sheds in the grounds of the house. The reputation and popularity of the Beaulieu collection continued to grow: during 1959, the museum's "attendance figures" reached 296,909.
By 1964, annual attendance exceeded the half a million mark and a decision was taken to create a purpose-built museum building in the grounds of the Beaulieu estate. A design committee chaired by the architect Sir Hugh Casson was created to drive the project, and the architect Leonard Manasseh was given the contract for the design of the building which was primarily the work of his partner Ian Baker.
By 1972, the collection exceeded 300 exhibits. In a ceremony performed by the Duke of Kent the new purpose-built museum building in the parkland surrounding Palace House was opened on 4 July 1972: the name was changed to the "National Motor Museum", reflecting a change of status from a private collection to a charitable trust and highlighting Montagu's stated aim to provide Britain with a National Motor Museum "worthy of the great achievements of its motor industry".
The opening of the museum coincided with the UK launch of the Jaguar XJ12 which made it an appropriate week for celebrating the UK motor industry. The museum is run by the National Motor Museum Trust Ltd, a registered charity.

Autojumbles have two great advantages over auction sites. 1. The fun and camaraderie. 2. All the stuff nobody knows what it came off but somebody out there is searching for it 😊

I went to so many autojumbles in the 1980s and 1990s, enjoyed all of them very much, found so many treasures. Not sure if there would be very much stuff for 1960s Triumphs nowadays, though. Problem is, here on the Wesr coast of the USA there are none.

how I wish we had events like this in Canada when I was restoring my Mini Traveller. There are so many of the little bits I had to buy as expensive replicas online - and some mechanical parts and a few body panels had to come over from the UK. An expensive proposition - but a labour of love. Look forward to your post very weekend. Next up - a chrome bumper MG Midget.

I'm quite new to the channel, maybe 8 weeks or so & I think it's fantastic 😍 The soundtrack to this one was ace.... My fun car is a beautiful low milage 2005 Porsche Boxster, however I think I may need something from the 50's or 60's! Maybe a Moggy or A30/35.... 😁 Keep up the great work Steph....

0:59 My dad had one of those old AA badges as he'd been a member for ever. It had his membership number engraved on it. They started making replicas (this was back when they had a chain of shops round the country) and my dad actually wrote and complained! He was obviously proud of the badge and they were quite rare by then, and he didn't want people to think he'd just bought a new one. No idea what their response was, if any. Why can't parents behave like normal people? 😂

As a German speaker, I am amused by the way you English speakers deal with French words. “Beaulieu” is a French word and means “beautiful place”. In Germany, for example, there is the castle “Sanssouci”, which means “without worries”. No German would think of not pronouncing this name in a French way. When I first heard “Beaulieu” from Hubnut, I wondered how it would be spelled. “Bjewly” or something similar? I cringe inwardly every time a British person says “Beaulieu”. Apart from that, I really like idriveaclassic, hubnut and furiousdriving. Keep up the good work, even in this beautiful place.

Hi Peter, this is the English pronunciation and exactly the way the museum says it themselves…and the local council. We’re not saying it incorrectly in an English language setting. It would be considered odd if we pronounced it the French way.

English is full of "anglized" French, much of it from Medieval Norman origin rather modern French. An example would be the word "Hotel", a word of French origin, CORRECTLY pronounced "hotel" in English and " 'Otel" in French.😊

Quite honestly the Beaulieu Spring Autojumble is getting a waste of time. Went along on the Saturday, opened at 9.30 and I'd seen everything and was gone by 11.30. There are so many empty plots now and what on display wasn't worth going along. The Autojumble in September which is always bigger is not much better. I can remember pre Covid the site used to be crammed full of traders and there were lots to see and quite honestly you probably could find what your looking for, but not now. It's a mere shadow of its former self, I shan't bother again.

I agree with you. I first went to Beaulieu as a seller/buyer in 1972, and it was brilliant for buying and selling in those happy days. But it has gradually got worse over the years, and now VERY expensive since my last visit in 2010. A lot of people just walk around without buying anything at all !
