Theory - you need small roundabouts. Small roundabouts = sharp turns = lots of centrifugal force. Large roundabouts may look impressive, but they actually generate less of the needed forces.

as the formula for centripetal acceleration is v^2/r, a large roundabout at higher speeds is not that useful compared to a tiny one at low speeds so yes, smaller roundabouts should net greater results, as vehicles are put to their test.

You pulled the words right out of my mouth. Lots of round abouts means all the loot will be evenly distributed. The average person is driving around them frequently and losing their stuff daily. Meanwhile, with fewer roundabout people are rarely driving through them and so accumulate more stuff that will fall out when they do use them.
@Kozm0h2 жыл бұрын
Have you considered trying this on multiples days throughout a two week period? Streets and roundabouts are generally cleaned once per week, typically on the close of the weekends. If you try for a Thursday or Friday, you may have better luck in finding valuables, especially considering there's more activity throughout Thursday to Sunday than there is Monday to Wednesday.

I remember finding lots of money in parks when I was a kid, especially around the benches and swings. Parents and other kids sitting there probably dropped them. I dunno it it was because I was growing up and not really looking for coins on the floor or people were getting a bit stingier with their money, but I can tell you that around 2007 I started finding significantly less coins in the same places that used to be full of them. Nowadays, between credit cards and the third in a row once in a lifetime economic crisis, you just don't find money in the wild anymore; besides a rare 5 cent that is.

I too ride my bicycle around town looking for interesting loot. The trick is to go to areas and intersections that are used frequently enough for people to lose things, but not so frequently used that other people find the good stuff, before you get there. So any place that has a sidewalk, or a bus bench, or anywhere where there's foot traffic, you statistically won't be the first person to spot a good item. I'd recommend taking the 2nd or 3rd most popular backroads, in your area, and look for the intersections of other semi-popular roads. These are usually about 5 miles outside of the city. Springtime seems to be the best time to look for tools that fall off of trucks and tractors. But again, you have to start riding about a week before everyone else, when it's still too cold for most people to be riding bicycles. Goodonya for the video and keep up the good works.

I have also noticed that road money has reduced lately, especially since covid hit. Maybe the twitch to card purchases? My lifetime results are definitely biased by finding a $50 note in a carpark once, but I used to make a dollar a month or so just from picking up coins while riding to and from work. Now I make far more from the container deposit system (NSW finally got it!). But even when I was finding money more often, it was very peaky - a smattering of battered 5c/10c/20c pieces then every now and then a few dollars usually in close prximity. I assume that was one person losing/dumping a handful of coins. Most obviously the time I got ~$5 in 5c and 10c pieces over about 2m of gutter.

I spent 20 years in Canberra. Once found a stash of coins strewn along a median strip between Chifley & Lyons. Best places for money finds are car parks, malls where people sit, car wash drains, servos & basically anywhere people frequent on mass & spend money. The key to good finds is, walk..... a lot !! I've also noted a car par trend where people put their wallet or purse on the roof, bonnet or bumper bar of their car whilst loading groceries or chatting. They forget about it & drive off !!

That brings back memories... I once broke down with my old Heinkel Tourist 103A2 (built in 1963) once when the throttle wire ripped. I spent about an hour walking up and down the street and found screws, hooks, washers, a key, a pipe and even some money in the hope to find something to fix my scooter. In the end I popped into a gas station and asked if I could use a saw to saw open that pipe I've found. Used it to fix the throttle and home I drove!

Beau mate. I live in Canberra and today/ the day this film came out i found a pristine pair of stihl tree loppers and a half decent half a rope! They were just sitting there on the corner edge of the large odd roundabout in Phillip featured in this very film. Of course I parked my car up and got ‘em. Timing/ Luck I guess? Unfortunate I found them and you didn’t 😂

Found an original Playstation Portable at a roundabout in Perth, once - back when they first came out. In its bag, with some games and all. Still the thing - it was the tunes saved onto it that got me into Led Zeppelin as a kid!

Thank your wife for sharing you with us for 12 days. 😀 My theory is you need better clientele in your roundabouts. Not office workers in Canberra, but builders and farmers in semi-rural areas. Areas where people get careless with tying stuff down. Anyways, love the series!

Repent and follow Jesus my friend! Repenting doesn't mean confessing your sins to others, but to stop doing them altogether. Belief in Messiah alone is not enough to get you into heaven, you must become a new creation and be born again by responding to the Holy Spirit. - Matthew 7:21-23, Revelation 3:15-16 cf. Hebrews 10:26-29. Pay close attention to your thoughts and how you respond to your inner monologue because it has a greater impact than you think. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life, and do all that you can to follow His ways.

I really appreciated this, it would be easy to think of this as a failure in that it didn't really go to plan. But it was still an adventure, there was exploration and learning. I think that's really important

Great video, Beau. I did a 90km walk around the outskirts of Greater Sydney a few months ago looking for interesting things and found 4x 20c coins, a 10c coin and a dead snake. The side of the road is a wonderful place to explore!

Good on you. Speaking as someone who spent their first scuba-dive outside of a training pool in the 8m deep splash pool of a picturesque tourist waterfall (in the dead of night) recovering the wish coins that tourists had been thrown in over the summer season. There was plenty of coins, but after paying for the expenses of fuel to get there and filling the air tanks we scooped a grand profit of £2.50 each for a team of four penny hungry, wet, optimists (just over $4 Aus at todays rates). But what a night to remember, looking upwards at the waterfall hitting the surface from below by the light of cheap torches only made waterproof by the use of condoms - kind of worth the effort as it made my next few open water dives seem tame and do-able. I think you proved your theory though, I'm gonna be checking the roundabouts round here from now on.

Beau, to a degree, your theory is true. You just have competition. There is a small, but growing community of scavengers in Canberra who frequently search the city for people's unwanted treasure. If money is the goal, then collecting containers in the town centres is the way to go.

Elaborating on the Miles Roundabout Theory (Miles, 2022) I'd like to add: -Roundabouts close to the starting or end destinations of many peoples journeys (homes, jobs, grocery stores) might have more loot because the loot falls out at the first roundabout encountered -smaller roundabouts have more centrifugal force so might offer more loot then bigger ones -debatable is if remote roundabouts might be prime spots for loot because people don't feel watched and throw stuff out their windows

love ya work man!…best spot to collect loot (aside from maybe clogged up rivers! ;-) is at train stations …from the centrifugal force (folk’s laziness), that spit out many cans onto the tracks! …collected 1000+ units recently, on my daily commute in only few months

Beau, Nice video! I was looking forward to you finding all kinds of money, but I like your revised theory. I have found all kinds of stuff beside the road. My wife used to make fun of the trinkets I would bring home; the tape of a tape measure, some perfectly good string, you name it, until the day I found a Mac Book Pro! I was able to track down the owner via a computer store sticker and a helpful computer store owner. I found the Mac Book Pro right after a hump in the road. Most of the phones I have found have been just in a turn coming out of shops, no footpaths. I think people leave their phones on top of the car and they slip off as they accelerate and turn. Good luck finding loot next time.

I have had some good luck on outside bends on rural roads, always keep my eyes open for "road treasure" when out cycling, mostly find tools and tie-down straps.
