Whereas I'm not taking apart 30 ton monstrosities, but I went through my 500 buck 2002 Chevy Venture, replacing all four bearing assembies (the rears were literally seized in with rust), all the rear brake hardware including slave cylinders, adjuster hardware, shoes, drums, rear shocks, sand blasted and painted the backing plates, front bearing assemblies, front CV joints, four new tires, and miscellany like replacing the rear wiper motor and arm and all the wiper blades, soldered in a dash illuminator bulb, disassembled and lubricated the drivers side window regulator, prop rod, transmission filter and gasket, bled brakes, disassembled and cleared entire air filter box (mouse choked), cchanged oil and filter, both cabin filters, adlight assemblies ...and I cleaned cleaned cleaned. Mind you the tough stuff (knocking out the rear bearing assemblies) were a nightmare! But getting ALL that done, the car runs as smoothly as a Cadillac and accelerates and corners like a scalded cat. All vibrations gone. So like you, just scaled down, you can transform a rattletrap into a really nice vehicle if you have the time and the shop. Tools were not too exotic. Hard work and good planning can result in a nice vehicle.

So many people take pride in their ownership of their buses but fall victim to unscrupulous repair shops. Good they find Scott!!!

Scott’s BGM channel is the reason we went looking for an MCI in the first place… I always knew we wanted to bring it to him to learn how to maintenance it since there is not a lot of folks around who do. We’re learning a ton while here. we previously had typical RVs… And they don’t hold a candle to these old MCI‘s. We plan on having this bus for a long time and enjoying it. I get more thumbs up in it than I do in any of my old cars lol.

Hi guys, I'VE been following you now for a few years i am subscribed, and i thought I would let you know I'm in New York on holiday and had a bit of a road trip down to DC and on the way back we took the back roads and came across a harbour freight and as you seem to use and mention them a lot I had to stop and go in, oh how I wish we had a shop like that in England. Love the videos and buses as I did my apprenticeship on the buses when I left school in the 70s, but I'm used to the Gardner engine

That is exactly what I want to do to mine, and I see it helps tremendously to have the right tools for the job. Perhaps I can win the lottery, and bring mine to you for some hands on training, and it would give me a huge peace of mind to know that all of it had been tended to. I don't have a safe place to work on mine.

Do not ground to that shaft as the voltage can pass through (arc) the roller bearings pitting the race(s) & balls. Seen a ton of trashed Kawasaki KZ900 & 1000 crank shafts were people grounded to the connecting rod and welded the crank pins. (weld the crank pins to keep the crank from twisting as they are not a one piece crack.) Rod and main bearings are roller bearings odd for a 4 stroke but most all 2 stroke motorcycles are like that. Spent about 40 years working on motorcycles. Just trying to help.

One handy thing about not cleaning and degreasing before you strip down a part or sub-assembly - any welding splatter from stubborn/stripped/snapped bolt removal won't stick very well when it lands.

Scott, when you use the Quinn torque adapter to tighten and set torque specs on something with a crows foot wrench, do you just put the crows foot at 90 degrees to the angle of the ratchet or breaker bar? Or does that only work with a click type ratchet? Do you use a math formula instead?

scott, provided proper maintenance is done over time on a bus like this, how many miles can one expect the kingpins to last before its time to replace them, or the bushings or both? just curious.

If you grease them regularly they last a very very long time. Grease is the longevity pill 💊 for long lasting chassis parts.
