Beautiful Art Supplies from Choosing Keeping, London ✶ Unboxing + Painting

In this video I share with you a very special order from Choosing Keeping, an independent art and stationery supplies shop in London. You will see as I unbox the items that everything was wrapped so beautifully and with so much care and attention to detail. Watch as I try the Japanese Gansai watercolour paints for the first time, colour swatching each set, and then testing the natural pigment ink and Japanese paint brush. Finally I'll create a painting using some of my new supplies! I hope that you enjoy this relaxing video and that it inspires you to perhaps try these paints too. Their products are always excellent and their wrapping is beautiful and makes the delivery so much more special, however their pricing is always a lot lot higher than anywhere else. Somethings can be up to £40 dearer than you can buy elsewhere so always double check but they have unusual items from abroad that are exquisite and would be hard to find or are exclusive. I would highly recommend them though overall. Glad you enjoyed your new products. When you get a delivery it's like a birthday that turns a normal day into a special one.

I think that you're paying extra for the care and attention put into each package, as well as the fact that they've obviously spent a great deal of time researching and curating an incredibly unique, unusual selection of products that you can purchase from one place. I did check the prices of some of the items I ordered that were featured in this video and the new order I placed this week, and they weren't vastly different (some products are very hard to find elsewhere too, as you said!). I'm glad that you'd recommend them as well, as my experience with them has been lovely. They're very communicative and polite, which goes a long way when you're placing an order with a company!

@@sueallen952 I've been very impressed with the products though - the quality is lovely. It's not a shop I could purchase something from every week, but for a special treat or as a gift, it's fantastic!

I also wanted to mention that these products aren’t from small businesses either and have a high mark up - the watercolour/Gansai paints are by a company named ‘Kissho’ which can be purchased elsewhere and you would get a 35 pan set for a little extra £ of the cost of a 8 pan set from Choosing keeping... I understand that they need to make a profit to sustain their retail shop so can understand why these products are marked up. But these 8 piece sets are only £12 from Aliexpress for anyone who wants these cheaper!

I'm currently living in Uruma, Okinawa, Japan and there's a little art shop here that I fell in love with. I'm not sure, but I feel like I haven't really been seeing a lot of gansai paints until I saw them at this shop about 2 years ago - then suddenly they were all over youtube! I love that you're enjoying them. I've been eyeing a few sets for a little while now and I think I'm ready to make the leap. Originally I was stocking up on the Holbein watercolors but I keep gravitating to the gansai. The best part about living in Japan is being able to purchase their awesome stationary and art supplies!! Oh, and the food of course. Your channel is very pleasant and inspiring. I'm a new follower and I've already binge watched several of your videos!

Thank you so much for your kind words about my videos - I'm so pleased that you're enjoying them! Living in Japan must be amazing for the art and stationery supplies - temptation must be everywhere! 😅 I do love the Gansai paints, they're gorgeous to work with. The only thing you have to be a bit careful of is that some are not very lightfast, so if you're selling the original work, you'll need to use just the lightfast colours. The others are perfect for sketchbook work, or work that is going to be scanned and made into prints though!

There are so many intriguing and tempting products in their shop! If you do get the 1960s palette, I'd love to see your review too! Their journals are beautiful. I have my eye on the larger watercolour paper and some other inks too (the ones in the little bottles with the cork and the wax seal - the colours were amazing but they'd sold out of the ones I wanted. My bank balance thanks me though, ha ha!). xxx

This is the first time I've come across a review of the 1960s palette and it's gorgeous! I've seen so many people try out the 70s one which is beautiful too but this one feels more inspired, I can't explain how pleasing it is to see the swatches all together 😍

I'm actually glad you got to try the 1960s palette for the Japanese Vintage watercolors. I was curious about that set but only saw the 1970s set tested. I hope to get the 1960s set in the future.

I love Choosing Keeping,they are a really special independent company. I have all three of the retro themed sets of paints too and love the colours in each of them. But they also have four beautiful sets themed to the four seasons which I also have and love too. I love the extra effort they make to wrap and parcel your order,so it's like unwrapping something really special.I love that they support other small business too,so you know what ever you order from them will,be something really well made and unique.I think the 60's set is my favourite.After watching your great video I deciced to order the tinted blacks set as I think they are a very differnt set to try working with.I don't mind paying a little more for such amazing products,knowing I'm helping to support in a small way shop and the other companies they sell through their shop.

I was given the 'Winter' set of Japanese paints from Choosing Keeping for Christmas! They're absolutely beautiful and I filmed the swatching video yesterday, so that will be the next one uploaded to my channel! Very excited to use them in my work. @@NatashaNewtonArt I think of the seasonal sets the Autumn is my favourite. Derwent have a range of pencils that are tinted blacks that are also water soluable,so the idea of the tinted balck watercolours really intreagues me,can't wait to try them out.The reason the pans are so large,I found out is because they are made for large calligraphy brushes,which is what the Gansai paints were created for.I love the colours and the diffrent ways they can be used.

@@NatashaNewtonArt The derewnt paencils are in their Graphitint/Graphatint range,they are graphite pencils with colour added to the graphite,they may work will with the tinted black gansai paints. I first got a set of 12 colours and loved them so got a larger set and use them a lot.They might be worth trying.

I think the colours in this set would appeal to you.I have orded a set as I want to try them myself.But as I was reading about them I thought of you.I think it's the idea of tinted/coloured blacks that I like.

Hi Ann! I think some are more lightfast than others - I keep meaning to do lightfast tests on them! I wouldn't trust them to be fully lightfast in the way I would my other artist-grade watercolours.
