I’ve always enjoyed your videos. I’m a firm believer in the adage, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”. The critics don’t have any idea how much work and time you put in your videos. Thank you. I’m so glad you’re back!

What a great vid again!! , great to have you back. Hope you are well , Thank you for enlightening us with your knowledge and inspiration . Never take comments personally, negative comments say more about the person stating them rather than about you. Focus on the positive and double them to counter the negative ones. Glad you are back Nancy,so sorry to hear about all the negative comments, but I hope the positive comments far outweigh them. You always have great and insightful videos. I have just purchased these four sets myself and I also have the other original three decade themed sets too. I love the idea of curated sets like this because it gets you to look at how you use colour in a whole new way. Of these new sets the 1930's set is my favourite set so far. But they all work well together. Choosing keeping always have such unique items. They also have four larger sets of these paints that are themed to each of the four seasons (which I have in my collection) that are also worth investing in. Just keep making videos about what makes you happy in your creative journey,and don't take the negative comments to heart, It's obvious from all the positive comments how much your followers love your channel and the vidoeos you post,so just take these with you as you go forward creatively. I think Choosing Keeping have listened to customer feedback because the packaging of these sets has definitly been upgraded for the better, the swatchcard is a new and welcome edition. You might be the first to post a review here in youtube for these new sets and so glad I was able to watch and listen to your take on these paints,thank you for the inspiration.So glad you had a great vacation too and that you took the time out you needed for your mental health and wellbing,it's so important to give ourselves space when it's needed,hope it's made you feel a little stringer coming back.(matt)

I had the same happen to me. Again mostly lovely comments but a few were just "what gives you the right to say that?" category. I'm not charging you for my time. There are plenty of other videos to watch on the same subject. And there seems to be a "Gotcha" culture of wanting to point out what you did wrong. Some are so eager that they mishear or don't fully listen. As to the paper for those paints my cousin was told by Choosing Keeping to buy their Aquarella paper. Don't know if that was an upsell when he bought me the 60s+ sets for my birthday or not but they said it worked best on that paper. I really like the 1930s set that you got.

I’m really happy to see that lovely seafoam green type color included in the 50s set. My grandmother had a LOT of stuff like pottery and home decor from the 50s and most of it was that color! Her bathroom was in that color. Her bedroom had a lot of it. And even her dishes were Jadeite, which is very similar to that color.

Gansai doesn't use gum arabic as a binder. Thanks for sharing!
@MysteryArts
@MysteryArts 3 жыл бұрын
Do you know what they use as a binder?
@ThingOfSome
@ThingOfSome 3 жыл бұрын
@@MysteryArts It depends on the brand. Traditionally, it is some kind of hide glue. Some modern paints use some kind starch. The difference in binder is what people attribute to the difference in the behavior in comparison to Western watercolor paints. There is a video and blog post by Sadie Saves the Day . For example, because of the rabbit-skin glue in their binder, people find there to be a difference in the behavior of Old Holland watercolor paint. :) Some of the differences you seemed to have noticed in the video, like with the flow of the paint.

@@peteinuk Yes, a little more gouache like is a good description for the Japanese watercolor sets. Old Holland is another story....they just feel like sticky watercolor to me. They have nice colors though so I have a couple of them that I use from time to time.

Just ordered these! What i have noticed is that they are not organized in the box to match the swatch card. So you have to turn the pan over to see the actual number of the color and match it on the swatch card. I do read Japanese and I see everyone messing up their swatch card assuming they are the same ……they are not.

The pallette looked familiar to me so I did a quick shopping search, and interestingly the results were mostly Kuretake Gansai Tambi, which aligned with my suspicion. 🤔 The colours are really pretty. I have a large set of Japanese colours from Mozart and the consistency is very interesting to work with. 😊 With regards to negative comments, I find they are more prevalent during the school vacation, so I tend to put it down to bored kids. 😉 Happy anniversary! I hope you have a lovely vacation. 😊

Gah! Those are gorgeous colors! Will you ever show your watercolor paintings? I’m glad you’re back, glad you’re rested, and glad you’ll delete negative comments. I wonder why they don’t just stop watching if they don’t like what they’re seeing. I marveled at your ability to post videos every day, and while I enjoyed it a lot, I can imagine how draining it could be. Happy Anniversary to you and your husband!

I've showed some of my watercolor work on the channel before, but those videos generally don't fare well, so I haven't done many of them. I did a video on prior travel sketches/watercolors and some watercolors I did as gifts for the holidays if you search back. Thanks for all you kind words! I agree, this is free content, why not just move on if you don't like what you are seeing? The only thing I can think of is that some people thrive on conflict and go out of their way to create it. Hopefully I can put some positivity out there to counter that:).

Great review, thank you, just a quick note on covid though. Sadly it is impossible to completely eradicate covid as it is constantly mutating even with 100 percent of people vaxed. My family and I are fully vaxed and still just got the omicron version of covid. Thankfully the vax has kept us out of hospital but this varient is totally resistant to the vax and we still got very sick. The vax reduced severity but does nothing to prevent transmission. Please be careful as you can still get it , and to be honest it's the sickest I've been with any flu or cold , still really horrible to catch. Our country has thrown away mask mandates and I think this is a mistake as now it is sweeping wildly through the community and if I was more elderly I firmly believe I would have ended up in hospital or dead it was so bad. Definitely still a killer amongst the weak here even thoughwe have reached the so called heard immunity level. Unfortunately even people who have had it can catch it a second or even third time as immunity only lasts about 2 months. Stay safe wishing you the best of luck, I hope you continue to evade it as it's like Pandora's box ,now it's out we will never be truly free.

I am not 100% sure of this, but I believe that the Choosing Keeping Gansai paints are made by Akashiya, and curated specially. I have the Kuretake large set and I find you have to really be careful about mixing colours, they will mix, but unless you do it well they will be a bit muddy, because so many of them are semi-opaque. Akashiya are said to be the creamier of the two makes, but I am not sure it would be noticeable unless you used both. I really like the set with the deep colours, 30’s I think. Discourse online has taken a bit of a nose dive. Do not take the negativity to heart too much. Let it be their problem not yours, and if you need to do housekeeping then do so. Nice video.

Misery loves company Nancy. Those who speak negatively get sick twisted thrills from making others feel miserable or getting a negative reaction. They feel as if they've won if they make you negatively question yourself or anything you do. Gaslighting you. The best way to treat those situations is to delete their posts, pay ZERO attention to them, or simply let them know they don't bother you & that your sorry they feel the way they do about things that bring joy to & help others. That's what you're trying to do. Hence the saying, kill them with kindness. You shouldn't have to take a break because of the negative nelly's out there. You can't stop them when you post things for the entire world to see. You can remind yourself that how they feel isn't your fault & you're here to help those who care to watch you. It's best to avoid the negativity because you can't do anything about it or control it. You just focus on how fantabulous & beautiful spirited you are😊😉 & keep on doing what you enjoy doing. Namaste🙏
