Fiddling indeed but when every joint is tight and square it’s a beauty to behold. Especially with finish.

Finally! Someone who glues end grain something near the way Titebond says to do it. So many complain about low, end grain, glue strength and yet they don't apply an initial weakened coat of glue the way the manufacturer recommends. Thank you

I would recommend Paul Sellers & Rob Cosman as great channels. I just searched online for plans and found this - www.finewoodworking.com/project-guides/shop-projects/a-shooting-board-for-case-miters hope these help 👍

great job loved the maple and teak combo. I uses to work in the boating industry and did a lot of work with both. Some of the guys that worked in my shop had reaction to the teak dust was wondering if you ever did

thanks, they do go well together 👍 No never had a reaction to teak, I didn’t realise it was such an irritant, I must be a lucky one!

Impressive workmanship and a wonderful design. As for your adjustable shooting board, do you have a video of the making of it?
@GM_Design

Thanks so much 😀 I use two shooting boards, the mitre one is hand made (no video I’m afraid) which is a variation on Paul Sellers design - kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y4rTk6mZrcdgbq8si=ZyGXn-gWuX3FTBQz The other is made by Veritas - www.veritastools.ca/en-ca/shop/tools/jigs-guides-and-fixtures/110737-veritas-shooting-board I hope that helps 👍

Lovely box. I like the maple and teak contrasts. You asked if you use too many clamps. For a small project like that, I would say you had clamp overkill. For the mitre joints and teak trim, the tape alone would be sufficient. There's also the risk of too much or uneven clamping force causing racking, or damaging the timber. While PVA needs clamping force, it doesn't need too much.
@GM_Design

thanks really pleased you liked it 😀 Great point about the clamps, more is not always better 👍

I have a question, if you please. I am in awe of your planer set up. Did you build it or buy it? As you can imagine, I would love to have something like this... Love your videos! (My favorite finish is shellac. It's my go-to product for many reasons. I sometimes even 'tint it.' 😉

Shellac obviously has a few drawbacks (not stain resistant and not durable) but for a piece like this, it’s hard to beat. I’m not sure about the benefits of microcrystalline wax over a good quality paste wax?

thanks 😀 No, not sure of any benefits just what I have to hand and like 👍

Brilliant detailed OCD artwork as usual Gary, well done! I’m fanatical about the smallest details of the pieces I make. I’ve been known to remake a project because “that one thing” wasn’t right. I’ve been scribbling some watch case ideas myself. What are the dimensions for each watch space you used in your piece if you don’t mind my asking? Thanks
@GM_Design
@GM_Design 5 ай бұрын
thanks 😀 Yeah I know that feeling! The spaces were 50mm (2”) x 80mm (3”) to fit the “pillows/cusions” I found online 👍

Thanks for that, mine were similar based on the pillows I too found on Amazon. I look forward to your next project. I’m mid way through making a box based on the one you made from cycamore and zebrano. Maple & wenge for mine. Pardon if you’re annoyed I’m making a similar one.
