Pretty woman, or crusty old guy, doesn't matter. The video showed me exactly the process I was looking for.

I love this girl! She knows her stuff and explains in perfectly understandable words, exactly how to go about each job. I love to see women learn about mechanical things. And shes beautiful 💋

What's crazy is "pretty brunette" is supposed to attract clicks but this is the first video that showed how to pull and press bearings that I found. It's literally what I was looking for in a tutorial.

This was literally the exact video i needed. Thank you so much! These bearing have given me so much trouble. I spent 2 hours on it today and got no where.

top tip about the engine stand adapter to press bearing back on again. have been using a crappy piece of scaffold tube the the stand adapter is a better fit. yay
@laohantun74048 жыл бұрын
the bearing on carrier part can use bearing puller tools as well, but too much energy require. I did that in my work very often, very physically demanding.But the way you present your video is so so nice.

Nice work. just one thing though. when you use a split bearing attachment you should always position it so that the two solod pices go accross the gap in the steel plates below. Granted you had a large, strong attachment and this bearing was no to stubborn. it can happen though, that using an attachment as you did can bend the through bolts (It has happened to me before :-/). Just want to help you protect you toolong is all. cheers.

I did a diff bearing replacement in a Dana M80 differential in September 2014 as the small pinion bearing was damaged & lost its preload. I just cross my fingers that it would work as the gears started to hum at 60 km/h a bit (40 mph) so I got in & changed the bearings. Since I didn't have a hydraulic press I removed the old bearings by fracturing the inner races with a chisel & slitting disc. I panicked a little when I chipped the very edge of a tooth on one of the pinion gears so I just blended it in with a fine grinding stone. I heated the bearings in a kitchen oven & froze the diff centre & pinion gear in the freezer for a few hours. The new bearings just slipped on although I had to help one of the side bearings on with a few taps. Since the diff is IRS, the side bearing adjusters are made of aluminum so they had to be heated with a propane torch so they'd fall out by tapping them on a flat surface. I did freeze the new bearing races so they'd fall in easier,I just set the diff lash to 0.12mm as it was before, checked the gear tooth contact pattern with Prussia n blue & set the pinion preload up to 2 newton metres (2.4 newton metres including the side bearings measured at the pinion retaining nut). The gears had some noise which has almost disappeared at almost 38,000 kilometres after the rebuild, it was at its loudest at 60 kph (40 mph) on the drive side but is now almost gone. The gears have almost polished themselves back into plane on the coast side as well as I couldn't afford to replace or have the gears relapped. I'm sure at 50,000 kms (31,000 miles) after the rebuild I won't hear the gears at all. For next times sake,on another car for example,I'll buy at least a 20 ton hydraulic press when I get my own house.

Russell Booth your diff is noisy because of the chipped tooth.

It's called a knife-edge bearing separator, because it has a somewhat sharpened edge to it that is supposed to slip under the bearing. If you have a good quality KEBS with a sharp edge, when you tighten up the bolts it will begin sliding in and pushing the bearing off the pinion shaft. Then when you put the pressure on the pinion gear with the press, it will already be moving in the right direction. If your engine stand adapter didn't happen to be just the right size for pressing on the bearing, what would you have done? That is why I save my old bearing and reverse it, then press on the big side to push the new one home. If you have a pressure gauge on your press, use about 10 tons of pressure to fully seat the bearing against the pinion head. For side bearing removal, I use my KEBS and a T-bar gear puller with a push disc and my impact gun. They almost always just pop right off. Very few needed to be cut off.

NOT sure where you learned the name of what is called a Bearing Splitter. She was you using the correct words only in reverse. Also I think the essence of her video was not only to show how to preform this task, but also give help to some folks that don’t have every tool known to man how to get by with what you have.

Ok I have a difficult enough time concentrating on the job and remembering the steps without this glaring example of what id rather be doing if I didn't have to fix my truck. I think ill try another video with a grizzled old codger as the instructor. Something happens to my brain when there is a beautiful woman around I'll forget how to walk and if I try to pick up on one I almost always feel like puking and my words come out upside down and backwards.
