Beautiful board. Im a long time mma fan , since ufc 1 1993. I also make cutting boards. Love the cross and I’ve been getting ready to make a board with a cross as well. My technique is different though, I appreciate your style though. God bless Harry Bates

I make my end grain boards from a single slab of wood, usually 6/4, I glue all heartwood to heartwood and sapwood to sapwood, and make cool patterns with the blonde streaks the walnut gives me. It’s fun and each board has unique qualities of its own. I sure enjoy it.

So i dont understand how a veneered cutting board will last a long time? Unless as you say at the start people dont use it daily? Doing those edges must be a PAIN.

Very good question. I personally have been using one of my first prototype Fusion Boards for about 2 years now every day with no issues. I have multiple clients who do the same... They use them every single day with no issues. The reason it works is because it's a 1/16" thick end grain veneer. If you've ever tried to sand through 1/16" of hardwood end grain, then you know how durable end grain surfaces can be. Even if you have a traditional end grain butcher block, it can take you a lifetime of abuse to cut through 1/16" of end grain unless you are a professional butcher and you are like... Chopping chickens heads off super hard with a butchers cleaver and stuff lol. Yes, the edges used to be super frustrating to do, but I've got a pretty smooth process now so it doesn't give me much of a headache.

Not in this case, many exotic woods sold commercially are waxed on all sides, not really sure why, other than to protect it during transport and storage. I buy a lot of turning blanks, like the long square pieces he had, and they're almost always waxed, it may also prevent warping and splitting with varying humidity levels in different countries.

Great point from Quiet Inspiration Creations. Yes, some species of woods are very difficult to dry without cracking. Theoretically the slower a wood dries the more controlled it will be with less cracks. My assumption is that the wax was applied to let the wood dry very slowly and prevent cracks, since it is such an expensive wood... A single lost wood blank due to cracks would be the cost equivalent of like 500 wax applications lol.

$365 in material is relative no ? I would sell a board like that easily for a $1000 or more..beautiful but now my wife wants one
