Pilot has become passenger and every passenger with average IQ must be able become pilot in an instant under guidance from the ground. Landing a plane at dusk in calm air is a great experience as everything is quiet and unhurried. In gusty crosswinds, things start to get more hectic and you are using all the controls trying to pin the landing when its really strong and trying to keep the plane steering straight with the available rudder size.

Computers pretty well fly the planes, even for takeoffs and landings. It's when one or more of these automated systems fail that a pilot's job becomes the most important job of his or her life. Too many emergency situations are never reported by the media. But, they do occur worldwide on almost a daily basis. It's only when a crash is reported that you hear about it.

@@taloniv3411 Pilots are all competent until we see how well they do in an emergency. I would love to see her in a simulator under stressful conditions. It's pretty routine on a clear day with little wind and no problems. After all, the computers pretty well fly the aircraft and greatly assist in landing. If I were a pilot I would always be contemplating my next move in the event of an emergency, especially on takeoffs and landings. I just think that many pilots these days get complacent as there are few emergencies and essential backup systems in case of.

If they can't do it calmly and properly, they fail 😂 check your facts before talking about pilots not being able to do something that they very well can. Very few pilots aren't thinking and preparing for the worst because if they didnt, you would see a lot more crash stories on the news

You can prepare for emergencies but until you are actually in one there is no telling how you are going to react. There are so many reports of well trained pilots making the wrong decisions or panicking. The general public does not know this. I worked for many years in an FBO Part 135 with about 100 aircraft that flew worldwide. Many long reality discussions with the pilots. My understanding of how things are in the aviation world was enlightening.
