My koi also just come to me, any stranger and they hide in their hide out I made them. Colleen - how do you feed your koi through the seasons? When do you stop for the winter, and start in spring, and do you give them special foods? Thanks! much love!!
@colleenpenny63046 жыл бұрын
I stopped feeding them back in September, when the water gets down to about 50 Fahrenhiet. I won't feed them for months until spring comes and water gets warm again. They can eat fresh algae from pond when water temps are cold as that is naturally easy for koi to digest during cold winter months.

Greenhouse and fairy guppy tank looking fantastic. I like the colors of the weird scale koi. I'm drawn to the weird ones. Scales kind of look like feathers in a way. Are the dogs liking the warming weather?
@colleenpenny63046 жыл бұрын
Yes we are so happy to have our ice and snow finally gone. Puppies were running all over yard yesterday. I took them for big walk on prairie yesterday and the fat little doggy was mad when it was time to go home. The weird scales are called "pearl scales" on koi.

Colleen, butterfly koi with 'strange colour going on' has got scales lifting. It's a start of an ulcer from an infection.
@colleenpenny63046 жыл бұрын
He has been like that for a long time, some of the colors faded and he always had weird scales. I will keep my eye on him as their appears to be a few scales lifting by his tail area. Hoping it will heal itself once water warms up. It was a very long winter and i have noticed over the years fancy types seem to have more troubles than normal koi.

My green house gets up to 100 and I feel like that might be too hot? I am wanting to add either my convicts in the green house or guppies. Will they be okay in there?

Open doors and windows in greenhouse on sunny days or they can overheat and plants suffer then
@colleenpenny63044 жыл бұрын
My fish all doing good in greenhouse. Just keep doors open for air flow on warm or very sunny days.

My guppies are finally breeding like crazy and now I have a bunch of neon orange/red/purple/blue colored guppies. I bred them with feeder guppies and endlers. It is sad that the goldfish are pale. I feed mine duckweed, maybe that would help them? My goldfish stay on the porch because of the birds of prey since I live near an inter-coastal waterway. My goldfish are vibrant and I usually feed them bottom feeder shrimp pellets.

Those goldfish were kept indoors and a friend did not want them anymore so I have them now. Will put outside in pond this week.
@malsprower6 жыл бұрын
Oh wow so they will be so healthy from here on out. Seems like almost all fish struggle when they are indoors under artificial light...

So when it was November they survived with no heater
@colleenpenny63046 жыл бұрын
I only use one heater for all 4 connecting ponds, and water temps are very cold all winter, down to barely above freezing. I only use heater when temps are down below -10 or -15 Celsius. Running water keeps ice down as pondd run like creek, from pond to pond.

Umm could you do a update on the guppy's in the outside pond ?
@colleenpenny63046 жыл бұрын
Yes. Soon. Working on front yard as it needs my attention. Plus flowers are not up yet as it was long cold winter.
