I started collecting shrimp from the greenhouse, and found MORE mystery fish that must have come in as eggs.

Those shrimp who survived against those sneaky fish are the toughest friggin' shrimp. I hope they settle their new lands and build a new shrimp empire.

Shrimp are such interesting creatures. I would love to get some, but I'm not yet confident that I can give them everything they need. I'm still learning and these videos really help. Right now I only have one planted tank that's well established. My goal is to get all three aquariums planted and balanced before trying something new. Seeing your beautiful shrimp really inspired me to get restarted on my failed 20 gallon long. Thanks for the inspiration.

maybe a good idea would be to have a 5 gallon bucket filled with water and toss all the plants into them and maybe any lingering shrimp would come off and you could easily get them out of the bucket when you then move the plants to trash or wherever.

Did my first summer tub this summer in the UK. Just tested with some of my culls in a 30 litre planter and oh my god did they adapt! I had hot days hot nights cold snaps then back to hot and they didn’t care! Put 6 shrimp outside in April and pulled out about 50 by September! Definitely going to try a bigger project next summer and I have you to thank for giving it a go!

I think it works if you plan to have enough rock piles and hiding spots for the baby shrimp. I think the problem here is that the fish were a surprise and got into a tub that was planned all shrimp. prolly not enough hiding spots etc.

Were the killifish left over from last year or maybe hatched out in the tub? Could also have been fish eggs on the plants. Always intriguing what can be found in a tub. On a more serious note, I emptied my 100 gallon tub on Sunday and found out why a had no fry this year. Dragonfly nymphs, 5 large ones living in the bottom of the tub. How do you deal with these?
@RachelOLeary
@RachelOLeary 3 жыл бұрын
you can use a chitin inhibitor, but that will also wipe out the live food supply. I find that doing sweeps with a net once a week is effective as the dragonfly larvae often cling to the sides of the bins.
@cattfishing
@cattfishing 3 жыл бұрын
Oh my goodness! This happened to me but with my tadpoles. I had no idea till it was too late and what's crazy is I watched so many dragonflies with great happiness as they tackled down the nasty horse flies, and the wasps that were killing my bees. I knew their larvae grew up in water. But I didn't have a outdoor pond, my neighbors did. So I always thought they came from there. My indoor pond with inside my greenhouse and I never once seen a dragon in there. Strange. And sad. Lost all my future baby toads that I was going to release back into the wild (in my garden with their parents.lol)

Great editing choice I’ve notice in both this and your outdoor tub cleaning video; showing the beginning processes of cleaning, then jumping to the end result. Although it’s a small editing decision on your end, it’s effective and keeps viewers engaged by not spending too long on a single tub. I’m a newer viewer so maybe this is a common editing style of yours, but never the less I appreciate those edits. Thanks for sharing your hobby and continuing to make content!

Use a shrimp trap , cost nothing and makes the job easier, like a fish trap : a plastic bottle cut in half and put together in reverse,some attractive food inside and put this in your tub a few days before you do the rest.

I lost mine also due to having house (inside) painted. I had .covered fish tank, but next morning catastrophic loss, all cherry red shrimp, hillstream loach, gobies, (it's a nano community tank). Makes me sooo sad. Luckily in the bedroom tank not affected, so zebra danios & male betta ok. Depressing - I had originally had several suppliers of very high quality cherry shrimp, think the nicest were from Sharon Emory. Had for several 3-4 years and probably had easily over 1k. Still doing 20% water changes every 4 5 days. Back to checking ph, and all values every 3-4 days😢😭
