My favourite description of Shinedown is ever heard was "Real artists, making real music, for real people, going through real shit."

I got to meet Shinedown and Brent at a signing during a Carolina Rebellion concert in North Carolina. The lines were huge, but he listened as I told him how much his music had meant to me while I was in the Army and especially while I was deployed. That it had saved me from going crazy more than once. I think that connected with him, because he got up from the table and came out and gave me the biggest hug. Just that quiet acceptance and nonjudgment of my experience, especially as a women veteran, is so rare that it stuck with me and I'll always love him for that.

Regarding the meaning behind “Daylight,” lead vocalist Brent Smith says, “This is about the human condition. We’ve got to live, and we’ve got to live with one another. And that should be something that is celebrated and not tolerated. That’s what ‘Daylight’ really represents. It’s our humanity. It’s an understanding that we’re all on this planet together, and we’ve got to figure out ways to take care of one another.”

I was at their Planet Zero album release show in July... I was shooting photos of the event. It was amazing when they played this song. Everyone was singing along. It was amazing and emotional.

I saw them this past April before this came out and not a dry eye in the area. I was next to people I didn’t know and we’re all just hugging each other and crying

I first heard this song on Sirius XM (Octane). Brent Smith (Lead vocalist for Shinedown). He stated that this particular song, to him, was a, "Gift". He had the lyrics in his head and went into the studio and they composed the track in 20 minutes. Such a powerful statement, with deep meaning for a multitude of personal life experiences. Simply haunting and perfect.
