The big question must be though, why, on an exhibition layout, does Märklin run electric locos with the pantographs down?

The most beautiful details of a layout are missing here as well as in the Miniatur Wunderland Hamburg: The electric locomotives run with lowered pantographs - and that doesn't look good. As in Hamburg, there is a fear that a pantograph could 'hang up' in a disengaged overhead line wire...

You must learn how to use pantographs safely. If oriented forwards no damage will occur. When backing up, switch pantographs.
