Beautiful Phang Pratheep Parade in Chiang Mai 2023

Phang Pratheep is a form of earthenware used for Buddhist worship. The word "Phang" indicates a small cup-shaped earthenware used as a cup for bearing wax or oil, the wick is made from cotton, and the word "Pratheep” means light.
In the Yi Peng tradition, Lanna people like to light Phang Pratheep as a form of Buddhist worship.

There is a Dhamma of Mae Ka Phaeak and the Five Gods, often chanted on the Yi Peng night.
Yi Peng is the full moon day in the 2nd month of the Lanna Calendar.
The Dhamma of Ka Phaeak is a story of the white crow 5 Buddhas with teachings about gratitude and exercising prestige according to Buddhist concepts.
According to the legend in a scripture called Anisong Phang Pratheep there is a story of five Lord Buddhas, born from a Mother white crow - Mae Ga Phuak .
One day, the Mother White Crow went out to search for food when she came upon a storm. The storm caused all five eggs of the Mother White Crow to be blown down from the nest and fall into the river.
The Mother White Crow - Mae Ka Phuak died from her grief and due to her merits, was born into Brahma.
Then 5 caring mothers kept the eggs till they hatched:
· Mother Chicken
· Mother Naga
· Mother Turtle
· Mother Cattle
· Mother Lion
After all five eggs hatched into human males, they ordained as hermits.
· Kakusandha
· Konagammana
· Gotama
· Kassapa
· Phra Sri Ariya Metteyya
When the five hermits met, they told stories of their mothers. All five hermits wondered, Who was their real mother?
They prayed to see their mother, and at that time Nang Phaka Brahma, who was their mother, transformed herself back into a white crow, telling their past stories to all five hermits. She said that if they thought of their mother, they should weave the cotton into a wick to resemble a crow's feet in a lamp of worship for Yi Peng Day.
By virtue of offering the crow's feet, the five hermits became enlightened as all five Lord Buddhas.
Lanna Buddhists have followed the Jataka tale and continue this practice.
In the night of Yee Peng every year, the Lanna people altogether will light up the candles at their homes or at the temple near to their homes to worship the 5 Buddhas and listen to Dhamma Jataka Mae Ka Peauk
1 - Who ever lights a Phang Pratheep on the full moon of the 12th month will in the next life be born into a rich family full of wealth and properties and beautiful skin with good appearance
2 - The Jataka Tale of Lanna “Mae Ka Pheauk” ( The White Crow) mentioned the 5 buddhas when enlightened, lit the candles to worship the mother who died and lived in heaven.
