Beautiful Puerto Vallarta 2019 Kayak fishing-Bonita snaps my fishing rod

Even when we go on a hotel beach holiday I make sure to take travel rods and a few lures. This year in Puerto Vallarta I went out on the hotels free kayaks for an hour or so a day. There were loads of small Bonito, Spanish and Cero mackerel which were so much fun to catch on very ligth tackle.

Get out on a Kayak, listen and you will hear Bonito busting small bait fish, then paddle like hell to get to them and chuck a lure! I had some success fishing off the beach but not as much.

I have a whole set of travel gear as well as my bigger stuff. I have Shimano travel rods of different sizes and strength. quite a few Penn reels to. I will do a video as you asked and post it soon. Depends who you fly with, we fly with Tui and pay for an extra case, my fishing gear for travel weighs in at around 15KG.

I spent a few mornings lure fishing off the beach, caught a few Lady fish and a huge Cornetfish that I didn't even know hit lures. I guess if you fish early mornings with cut bait or lures you should have some fun!

I took the stcroix 10'6" with penn 6500 ll and it worked great and its lightweight -- I even took it out on a bout and caught a 20+ lb Jack on a krocodile lure

Do the hotels always have free kayaks to use? I am staying at the hard rock resort and it says they provide kayaks but I will be coming during New Year's Eve so I'm not sure if there will be any available? What are your thoughts? Should I just bring my own inflatable kayak?

Sorry only just saw your question, it all depends on the individual hotels, I always check before I travel. Did you get any fishing in?

We stayed in a Hotel called The Sunscape. Just took out one of the free to use Kayaks a few times and had loads of fun. I have 3 Shimano travel spinning rods, two are telescopic the other a four piece. 3 x Penn 4000 reels with 20lb braid, I then have around 4 feet of 10-15 lb fluorocarbon, tie it with an Alberto knot or similar (find loads of how to videos for this knot) One heavier flouro I use the FG knot. Then trie loads of different lures...small silver flashy works very well!

I am no expert on Puerto Valllarta, I would say if yu can get out on a Kayak with light tackle and some lures you should hae some fun!
