Even though I find her fight a little dull, Rennala stands out a lot to me as the only major human boss in Elden Ring that isn’t deformed or corrupted in some way. She’s just a normal person who got caught up in Marika’s insane family, and paid the price for it. At least you don’t have to kill her, even if she’s still in a kinda miserable state.

Based on her face, she might have been affected by the Amber Egg. There's an odd shape to her bone structure and a peculiar sheen on her skin tone. It's more subtle compared to the changes a lot of the other bosses went through.

That's a nice thing in Miyazaki's games, I think; there's always a couple bosses that are not exactly hard, but that leave a strong impression for a long time. Rennala going from a half-mad, dreamy-gazed broken woman locked away by her own past subjects to one of, if not the most powerful sorcery user in the Lands Between is an absolutely stunning and unforgetable transition.

Rennala has one of the most intricate and artful outfits in the game. The mix of sorcerer's robes, graduation regalia with honors, regal embroidering, and a bejeweled crown mixed with a bird-like witch hat creates a fantastic design with lots of meaning to it without ever getting cluttered. Her crown also reminds me of the Elden Beast's head, and it's interesting how the false Rennala is also fought on a starry ocean of sorts.

The only ones that I think that are capable of doing it are either is into historical re-enacments, Renfairs or the local seamster/seamstress that have handled the making of the clothing and embroidery of the statues and religious icons in the parish for years.

Both Rannala and Radagon sort of mirror each other in terms of boss fight, in phase 1 you fight an actual version of them however both are shadows of their former selves and then in phase 2 a 3rd party power steps in and takes over the fight in a vast ocean surrounded either by trees or a moon overlooking the arena.

I mean, she had to be very powerful if she was able to repel Radagon and his host once in the first Liurnian War and fight to the standstill in the second. I think clue to this is that Ranni, an actual Empyrean, has signature spell with slightly weaker intelligence requirement than Rennala's signature spell, which requires highest intelligence of any spell. And Rennala is still, supposedly, just regular mortal.

She's beautiful from head to toe (and if some fan's perception of Myazaki is to be believed, especially the latter). If you're an INT/FAI build, be on Med. Load, use summons and always turn your Autolock to her, and keep your distance. For STR/DEX builds, have a good Vigor and Stamina, have armor with high magic resistance, use your skills often, and turn off autolock and rush to her if you have an opening. If you're not picky in using summons, use the same strat for the INT/FAI. If you can use a crossbow, use it on her. Bloodhound Sword +3 and Carian ashes +4 were my friends during that figh.t

I had the same thing xD Downed her the first time, on my first playthrough. Tried again on my alt, died at least 5 times. Colossal sword + Lion's claw with fire affinity and flame grant me strength works wonders though. Only takes 3 hits, both phases. Very easy. Even on a mage build. (She's weak to physical and strong vs magic/status.) I have a guide on it. Still, such a sad tale and before learning the secret I kept thinking: Why would Radagon ever leave her?

Yes it is pretty strongly implied that Radagon never actually stopped loving Rennala. Him leaving was more so due to the Golden orders complete control over him and his inability to resist as much as Marika did.

Radagon/Marika just needed a way to defeat Liurnia without risking another war.

You have to remember a few things >he still kept the moonlight sword to a point even if it were altered >he gave her a special part of the elden ring and no one else was willingly given it >he has protection for her in place >radagon is marika not the other way around >radagon clearly has his own mind, thoughts, beliefs, etc, but the body isn't his own it's marika's and ultimately no matter how hard he fights what she wants matters more than what he wants >he's a complete and utter slave to the outer will and golden order a majority of what we see of marika's interaction with radagon is her mocking him for that In terms of control over his body it would be duty to the golden order>marika>radagon The guy doesn't really get a real say for the most part and he's a bigger simp for a golden order than even morgott who himself was borderline uncle ruckus tier in his love for something that hated his kind. Also if you pay attention to Martin's previous work how these love stories always plays out is that the man's duty gets in the way of his love life and typically causes intense harm to him and his partner which is exactly what happens here

I feel horrid for her. She was a talented, highly intelligent, and powerful woman who was dealt the wrong hand. She’s lost her sense of self due to depression and pain. We couldn’t even fight the real her because she’s just so broken on the inside. Too bad we couldn’t do more for her, like tell her that it wasn’t her fault Radagon left, or that it isn’t wrong to mourn the lost of true love. I believe that she needed time and empathy. Nobody can react sanely and pretend nothing happened when their loving spouse suddenly ups and leaves you and your children, especially if they did so to marry a literal God to become the next Elden Lord. I feel that the pressure of the people around her to pretend nothing happened to assume her duties to “act right” and their cruel apathy towards the incident definitely acerbated her condition. The only person we’ve seen so far who actually had real empathy for her is Ranni, who kept a watchful eye on her mother to protect her from harm. Even tho i wish we could console her, at least we didn’t kill her. She really didnt deserve all that and more.

I get a genuine frog in my throat when I think about Renalla. Of all the shardbearers, she was a peaceful, elegant, and gentle soul. Sought to create where others would destroy. She loved. When the followers of the Stars and Moon warred for ages-untold, she created peace between them with her beautiful magic. When the Golden Order sought to take over Liurnia, she fought them to a standstill. When they came to destroy, she created peace on behalf of her people. While Marika created children to perpetuate her vision of order, discarding those she deemed unfit, Renalla created children whom she loved. When Radagon wanted to marry Renalla to learn more about her magic and create an heir of the Golden ORder, she married him for peace and, later, for love. And what did her love give her? Her family was shattered, she was usurped by her own academy, abandoned by her husband, left alone in the library with her only company being the conniving sorcerers who only wanted to take advantage of her power to prolong their own miserable existences. Two of her children became warlords who tore the world apart during the Shattering, while her most precious daughter killed herself (at least to her knowledge). Hers was the truest heart of them all, and it broke the most tragically. There is no character in Elden Ring for whom I want a happy ending more.

Well personally i think he didnt want to leave her too but he had no choice. Ppl were perplexed when he left, which means that everyone knew their marriage was a loving and happy one. He gave her an egg for her to remember him and their love. I believe if he didnt care he wouldnt put any thought into it, and would definitely not put a great rune secretly inside it as well.

I think my biggest criticism of Fromsofts approach to rpgs is aside from some designated quest npcs, there's little we can do to help most people in the Lands Between. We can't tell Malenia where Miquella is, we can't help Rennala, we can't talk it out with Adula even if we're sworn to Ranni, we can't explain the necessity of what we're doing to Maliketh or Morgott, etc, and I feel like it almost works against the more hopeful tone of the story.
