Sámi artist Elle Márjá Eira performing in Sami Grand Prix 2009 in Kautokeino, but not as a part of the competition. She is singing/yoiking "Ruoššajievja".
Sami Grand Prix is a part of the Easter Festival in Kautokeino.
The Sámi people:
Sami people, also spelled Sámi, or Saami, are the arctic indigenous people inhabiting Sápmi, which today encompasses parts of far northern Sweden, Norway, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia, but also in the border area between south and middle Sweden and Norway. The Sámi are Europe's northernmost and the Nordic countries' only officially indigenous people.[6] Sami ancestral lands span an area of approximately 388,350 km2 (150,000 sq. mi), which is approximately the size of Sweden in the Nordic countries. Their traditional languages are the Sami languages and are classified as a branch of the Uralic language family. The Sami languages are endangered.

Keep the Sami culture alive. Don't let it die. We need cultural diversity in this world. If culture dies, so will the guidance & the wisdom of our ancestors. We will be lost, looking for our native roots

Sadly large portions are already lost to the history thanks to the cross worshippers forbidding the sami religion and culture. :(

Niels, just wondering if you're impersonating the real artist and stealing? Lots of people where you're from have a history of doing that. They also have a history with the local law enforcement. Prove that you are who you claim to be. I'm in Hokkaido but I can wait.

i encountered sami music in my swedish classes at college. We talked about Mari Boine, who's i guess the most famous Sami singer & when I travelled throughout sweden/norway last year someone on the train to Kiruna showed me Sofia Jannok. I fell in love with sami music, it's very soothing & although I don't understand the lyrics i find it's beautiful. I'll spend 2 month in sweden this winter & hopefully be able to go to the sami land again.

too late. After 100 yrs they know nothing about where they come from. The loss of their language is a strong indicator. They visit geneology sites, because they would otherwise not know who their grandparents used to be. That is the sorry state of affairs.

Ruoššajievja - what does this mean?
@rolfolsen3236
@rolfolsen3236 5 жыл бұрын
Ruošša means Russia, and jievja means white. The term is used by Saamis to describe a certain-looking reindeer. As you may know the Saamis have about 500 words to describe reindeers. By those discriptive words they immediately knows what reindeer is meant if they see it. Best wishes, A Saami

Their language is similar to Finnish in many ways, it's the same language branch, but studies have shown the the Finns and Saami are genetically more different than Finnish and some more farther away countries. I don't know exactly why, but it has something to do with age old rivalries or something. Finland is Suomi in Finnish.
