I've seen a great tip to help with warp tension. Instead of tying off on the apron rod when changing colours, tie the ends together, it becomes a single thread making tensioning easier, the knots should stay at the back of the heddle so don't effect weaving.

That's a great idea! I may have to give this a go!

That is such a great idea for random-looking stripes🥰 Thank you. I really like the flax weft, but the natural is also nice. And I love the sneak peek of what’s ahead! This series is awesome🥳

I wanted to cry for you when you said you dropped the heddle! I did that once and wanted to throw myself down and scream like a toddler! I always tie a few warp threads together to keep the heddle from falling until I'm ready to thread the holes. I also prefer the natural for weft, and I love the tracking! I will have to try the 8/4 cotton on the 10 dpi heddle!

Thank you! A bad word MAY have escaped my mouth lol, but it was easily fixed. I will secure the heddle next time, and tie as I go! Thanks again!

Also have you tried foam shelf liners for the start of warp? The foam has a mesh/net pattern, it has give but not too much give & also has grip to it so the warp really stays on the rod. I didn’t like how much waste was created by the short plastic things attached to the apron rods so I cut the plastic things off & tied texsolv string (the one that has holes every cm or so) & used that to keep them the same length so now the warp goes all the way to about an inch away from the heddle. Now there’s a lot less waste and the rods are more flexible because the plastic things were also pretty rigid.

Another great idea! Yes, I have seen how using the texolv can be better than the plastic ones on the Apron rod. Hmmm, maybe a video coming up! Thank you!

Secure your headdle with rubber band to the headdle holder while you are threading, it prevents it popping off
@RigidHeddleWeavinginBrisbaneАй бұрын
Thank you! I used to do this but stopped for some reason. I rarely have this happen, but think I may go back to doing this, thank you again!

For my warp I use this pipe insulation thing, it’s a very heavy rubber that has a grippy texture on the outside, doesn’t stain the yarn, but what I really love is that it’s round and heavy enough so it gives the yarn tension by creating the just the right amount drag. I also use a tension device to be extra sure lol because I’m better with wool rather than cotton.

I enjoy watching your design and weaving process. Thank you for sharing! How tight do you make your warp tension and how do you ensure consistency along the entire length of the fabric?
@RigidHeddleWeavinginBrisbaneАй бұрын
I think this comes with practise. I like a firm tension with cotton, less so with wool. I like to crank the top and bottom when winding on, as a I think this makes a difference. Hope that helps!

Another beautiful set of woven towels! Is there ever any use for the fringed ends you cut off, or do they unravel pretty quickly?
@RigidHeddleWeavinginBrisbane28 күн бұрын
Hello! I save them and use them for pillow or pet bed stuffing. They do unravel a little but if if save them up, undo the knots it’s great stuffing. 😊

@RigidHeddleWeavinginBrisbaneАй бұрын
Hello! This is a stand I picked up at my local haberdashery. I think it’s for ribbons, but it’s perfect for holding yarn so I repurposed it! Thank you!

I love all you videos! I have an Ashford 32 inch rigid heddle loom. I love it, but I have a lot of trouble keeping the front beam (the brace that holds the front of the loom) stable. No matter how tight I make the knobs that brace is forever coming loose snd dropping my loom. Do you have any suggestions for me?
@RigidHeddleWeavinginBrisbane23 күн бұрын
That is frustrating! I haven't had that problem. It might be worth taking photos and reaching out to Ashford directly for advice, or a local group? Even a Facebook group. Good luck!
