Beautiful vintage bus conversion 1970 MCI 7 detroit diesel 8v71

This beautiful vintage bus conversion is a new addition to our family. It needs a little engine work but we know a guy that can do that for us ;)

When I was a younger man, I had dreams of doing a bus conversion. I'd do exactly two things different in my conversion. My bus would have been a MCI 102 (DLC3) with a Detroit 60 series and even though I abhor the usual mated Allison 6 speed transmission, I'd have both the engine and transmission tuned with the Jake brakes. I would have kept the factory air. But everything else is absolutely perfect! Those pristine storage/luggage bays are premium. Your kids have an amazing bus! I hope they enjoy it.

Pretty sure that is a Bill Hanni coach. He had one for.himself very very close to that same year in fact. The stripes were slightly different outside but the interior was same layout and very similar materials. I would bet that is one of his conversions that he worked on and he was big on end caps. He worked on some celebrity coaches as well. Pretty respected guy. He worked on Merle Haggard's bus.

Helped install 2- 8V92 Turbo charged in a new 55 foot Sportfisher in the late 80's,that boat screamed about 40 knots. Being in between those 2 screaming beauties out to Sea was a harmonically balanced acid trip lol,the singing back and forth told us of a job well done.

Absolutely beautiful bus. It's definitely gonna be a nice one to live in for your daughter. I'd have no problem with the interior but most likely I'd still remodel it myself. Definitely needs some serious engine work that's for sure. Of course the Master Diesel mechanic BGM is gonna get it in top runnin' shape.

Those rectangular headlights were not available until the mid 1970's. So someone customized the front of that bus.

I am all for the 3 million dollar coaches if you are rich or crazy enough to spend that much money on one but I truly believe in my heart a beautifully done bus like this will bring as much and more enjoyment. It will get used more and you wont be crying when you are travelling thinking how much it cost.

So happy to hear you have embraced your latest grandchild. I would just make minor adjustments to the interior and start using it for it's intended purpose. It looks like some serious servicing is required. Luv the manner in which you omit the fact that it is rolling blue coal by saying " it struggles a bit coming up here " ! Nice score Scott but I am certain that the seller came looking for you since who else can give someone else's baby the TLC it so urgently deserves ! Cheers and count your blessings ! I converted an mic 8, Conversion was far from perfect, inside was hand built, no dragging in sofa and already manufactured furniture. Hope you enjoy the ride.

Nice looking bus you have. Reminds me of the Madden Cruiser. That was a converted bus used by legendary Oakland Raiders football coach and NFL broadcaster John Madden. He used that bus being he does not fly.

That's a nice conversion, I'm still looking. I found a 69 single axle, but don't know what the inside looks like, but he isn't asking much for it. Ultimately I want a mid 90s Prevost, but my current budget is calling for something a little cheaper. May sell our place first though, and then find one, but I sure do have the fever.

There are always deals out there. Used professional conversions are usually the best investments. Prevost liberty and marathon conversions of that 90’s time frame are usually great buys. Wanderlodge buses are also nice deals. Conversions like that get you everything for pennies on the dollar. If you convert one yourself you are paying dollar for dollar for every on the conversion side.

Thanks for the info, yeah, I am a new member on the website, those guys are really helping me to understand the differences. Would love to come visit your place some day, I am learning a lot from you. After watching the vids on your new place, we are thinking about doing something very similar, and we could live in the bus while it's being built, even be able to park it inside once the shop goes up. Don't know what the future holds right now, but I am definitely hooked on wanting a bus, have always loved the older ones, that 57 you bought has lots of potential, but like you said it can get expensive and in the end, you could have probably gotten a professionally built one for the same money, but the vintage buses have a charm all to themselves, the Prevost are huge though, and lots of storage as well, I did find a couple of older ones that were single axle 35 footers, cheaper on tires but not as much room, so I will probably look for a 40 footer when the time comes. Very nice bus and looks functionally ready to occupy now....I see some conversion characteristics which closely resemble Custom Coach roots. Copper plumbing routed and clamped says quality work likely throughout by whomever!

There are onlt two things I don't like. First is that front cap. I much prefer the stepped roofline of an MC 7. The other thing is the all white dash and drivers seat. It would be impossible to keep spotless. I'm like you however in that the drivers area and controls are pretty much stock. If I could afford a motorhome my order of preference would be a late MC7 or early 8, a late GM 4905, an MC 5, then a GM 4108* .Manual or automatic transmixers, as long as the automatics are factory installed. (* I never liked the domed dash of the 4107s. At least I think they were 07s when I drove them. I liked the rectangular dashes of the 08s and the 4905s.)

Wow what a beautiful bus! The kitchen was awesome! Plenty of storage and cabinets..all well thought out..drawers of a good size etc.. Like the light wood interior too.. I'm not a big fan of that new dark wood they are using now days. Guess I have not seen a video in a while but the new ending song is just soo great! I loved the Greyhound Super 7 Scenicruiser and the stepped roofline (I think the high-forehead roofline on this bus is ugly). I was disappointed when I boarded one and found Greyhound painted the "sunroof" where the roof stepped up (not sure if it was Greyhound or MCI that did that). All the ones I rode had a 4-speed manual transmission. Those headlights had to be upgraded as I recall MC7 and MC8 had round lights. Even cars didn't have rectangle headlights until 1977 at the earliest.

I’m not a fan of the caps either but at least this one has the roof raised inside so you get the height benefit. I would never put a cap on a bus. To me it’s like when you see a pretty lady but she’s had lip injections. All i can focus on are plumped up lips 👄… not even boobies and keep me from focusing on how dumb the lips look.

Well, that should knock down the mosquitos. If it were me, I'd leave the interior alone unless there was something that needed changing. Since you're not throwing parties in there, I'd for sure leave the bathroom alone, Better Homes is probably not going to grade you for that.

Very neat unit for 1970 ,,, i,d call it pristine even with it minor paint issues with clear laq paint peel an be t water seperated paints from moisture around seam or rivet when paint took place, only pick was the dvd an tv in main bedroom ,,, looked sloppy esp dvd position
