My great-grandson is 11yrs. old and loves watching you bake your pound cake videos with me. He loves it when your Dude#1 tastes your cakes especially the sweet potato pound cake that's my great-grandson's favorite flavor when I make your thick glaze.

I use espresso powder in chocolate cake. It makes my house smell like brownies. Yum! Did you know that you can replace the oil with unsweetened applesauce? You still get the moisture but eliminate the fat. The exchange is 1 for 1. You get to eat more cake. 😋

Hey Mrs Donna, this cake looks so good! This reminds me of a cake I made before. It's called Black Magic Cake. It's all made from scratch. It calls for a cup of cold coffee in the recipe. Since made from scratch, it is pretty chocolaty. For those that love chocolate, this is the cake. I would love to make this cake you made. Ms. Donna I’ve been on a baking journey for a number of years. I’ve been trying to bake everything from scratch. Chocolate or devils food is easy to bake from scratch, but vanilla or yellow has been the struggle. It always seems dry to me. I’m going to try this with yellow cake and use whole milk instead of coffee. Thank you for trying and sharing these recipes. I love your channel.

Miss Donna, I love watching your show. I’ve done a lot of your hacking that I didn’t know you could do but I was wondering have you ever tried a cake mix with the pie filling in it I do a cake mix and I mix-and-match and I put pie filling in it with four eggs and you don’t even have to have a mixer to beat it. All you gotta do is combine it real real good stirred with a spoon. Bake it down at 3:50 oven for 35 minutes and then put you a glaze on it or buttercream icing or cream cheese icing it’s delicious this is Dixie from Texas

I made a box chocolate cake last week and I went off your lemon cake and added the cup of flour and sugar and I added milk a stick of butter instead of oil and about a half cup to 1/4 c. of coffee and it was good too, oh and manynaise instead of sour cream.

Thanks so much Donna. As much as I love making pound cakes I love to make box cakes. I've always used Duncan Hines because that's what my grandmother used. After I put batter in pan I shake the pans to get it even. Ido this, so I don't touch the bottom of pan.

I’ve been making this exact cake minus the coffee and extra flour for over 30 years. I use it for all my chocolate “candy” themed cakes. I do m&m, Twix, Reese’s, Oreo, Krackle, any candy bar requested to go on the top. If a layered cake is requested the fillings match the candy bar except with M&M it’s just chocolate icing filling. I used to do scratch but the boxes mixed save me time and actually money when I use a coupon along with a sale. I have an order for 100 chocolate cupcakes this week and will try the coffee added in. I have the bake even strips, they work well. My dad taught me years ago to use cake hacks but I love scratch. In a hurry they work well when you know how to modify them.

I added 1C flour 1C sugar mix them to my box cake but I did the reverse creaming method I put my dry ingredients in the bowl add my butter Tbsp at a time then I add my eggs 1 at a time the I add my liquid cake batter was thick but super moist..

Hi Mrs. Donna, 😊 You should make a “better than anything” cake but pound cake style. It's made with Duncan Hines (with the pudding in the mix) German chocolate cake. After you bake the cake, poke holes in it. Mix condensed milk and Smuckers Carmel and pour on top of the cake. After it cools cake cool in the frig add a mixture of cool whip and some of the caramel mixture. Lastly, top with pieces of Heath chocolate bar. It's so good! I would love to see your take on this recipe. I hope you try it! My husband and I love what you and your family represent on KZbin! I tried your last box cake hack. I substituted brown sugar for white sugar, added 1 cup flour, 1 additional egg, cream bouquet and butter flavor. It bakes in 45 minutes. It was a surprise hit!

The baking strips are easier to use if you apply and remove them from the bottom of the pans. That way you don't have to loosen and tighten them every time.

I LOVE Devil's Food cakes!!! I've got to try this one. My hubby doesn't like chocolate either, but seeing Dude #1's expression, he might just like it. Question Ms. Donna: do you notice if your hack-boxed cake holds its consistency and moistness after a day or so compared to a cake baked from scratch? I began baking using box cake mixes, but the moistness wouldn't last long. That's why I started baking from scratch.
