C clamps and straight edge for the curve was such a huge help. Thank you!

I was thinking of that idea and just searched now for it. I wanted a different type of carving though. Maybe slight gouges along each edge of the bottom of the bracket about a couple of inches long about ten so it creates a rippled effect?
@GlennFrazeeYT Жыл бұрын
Sure, you could do that. I have other patterns available too: www.apexpergola.com/brace-templates

Hello, nice job. I am going to start building mine today. have a question the braces you use 2x6 lumber? I see you use two. I am correct?
@GlennFrazeeYT2 жыл бұрын
Correct on both accounts.

I noticed you used simpson strong tie post base. Since they don't have 4 sides to the bracket the posts are really wobbly. Did you do anything special to stabilize the pergola? or did the braces you attached do the work?
@GlennFrazeeYT4 жыл бұрын
Good observation. The braces are what stabilize the frame.
@moselc094 жыл бұрын
@@GlennFrazeeYT The reason I asked is because I am building a pergola using the same post bases. In the back of my head, I want to tear everything down and get new post bases, maybe "ozco" with 4 support sides. However, when I came across your video and noticed your pergola looked pretty stable I figured there was hope. Are there any other special adjustments you had to make to compensate for the wobbly post bases?
@GlennFrazeeYT4 жыл бұрын
@@moselc09 Nope. Bracing at the top prevents the whole assembly from racking. It might sway a bit if you push on it, but my experience with high winds on mine is that it doesn't move at all.

Could you please tell me how you figured the length of the brace?

It was stronger and looked better without the curves.
@GlennFrazeeYT Жыл бұрын
Stronger, yes, though for the loading these see they're still way overkill. Better looking is subjective.
