I talk about what a TERRIBLE adaptation Beauty and the Beast 2017 was, missing the point of what made OG Beauty and the Beast unique and special as I narrate the main events of the plot.
Belle became an empowered prick, shoving aside all sweetness and kindness of OG Belle. She is not sweet or kind. She looks frowning most of the time. Her “girl power” moments also ended up turning other characters weak for the sake of remarking her as a “strong female lead”.
The Beast looks bland and doesn’t have half of the character development he had in the 1991 movie. His cgi face also make it harder for his character to express emotions, unlike in the OG animated movie.
Emma Watson and Dan Stevens had no chemistry or whatsoever. Most scenes lost their meaning or sweetness because they both looked like they did things just because the script said so. Their growth is almost non existent. The movie has boring conversation scenes between the two of them that makes me feel nothing but boredom and the ones that were present in the original movie do not have the same emotions or depth the original scenes had.
Gaston became a low energy simp. Not only his character lost all aspects that made him memorable and despicable, but also the scenes in which he is in looked low energy or weird as well.
Le Fou’s gets retconned as he is turned into a gay character. So his “redemption arc” lasts 10 seconds in a dumb conversation with Mrs Potts and he is not to be seen until at the very end of the movie with another gay dude for literally 2 seconds.
Dumb exposition scenes were added to explain about Belle’s mom and why the beast and the staff were cursed, which went nowhere but to appease nitpickers. It also tries to create further tension, which falls flat because more stakes very added to the movie which simply don’t work.
The live action adaptation of Beauty and the Beast is a disaster. It missed the point of what made the 1991 animated movie a beloved one to this day. This movie is a complete catastrophe
I talk about all these and more in more depth throughout my video.

I swear Disney 2017 Beauty and the Beast should´ve been a NON-musical adaptation produced by Guillermo del Toro. And the dress is a CRIME. Lily Collins should´ve been Belle. Period

I can understand what Emma Watson was trying to do with this version of Belle. I think she wanted to give Belle a bit more independence possibly because she’s an activist for feminism. And while I won’t agree on a lot of the decisions she makes in the future, I can respect her intentions. But sometimes you do have to ask yourself “are these changes really necessary?”

Beauty and the Beast, the original, is my all time no:1 favourite animated movie. It's perfect, the animation, the voice acting, the characters, the story. I loved it so much I went to see the theatre production of it. This remake is a soulless cash grab riding on the shoulders of a giant. Emma Watson is not Belle, at all. They bitched the songs. The setting is to dam dark visually. They bloated the movie with unnecessary details that wasn't needed. They changed details about the main character and those around her just to inflate Emma Watson's ego.

When I saw Beauty and the Beast, it was in a double pack with both Beauty '91 and Beauty '17. Beauty '91 is a genuine work of art, easily the best film from Disney's Renaissance, tied for that spot with Who Framed Roger Rabbit (which doubles as the first entry in the Renaissance era). Great music, fantastic animation, were it not for me watching more animated movies like Akira and The Emperor's New Groove, it would've been my favourite animated movie. That's how good it was. So after my first viewing of Beauty and the Beast, I jumped to the remake... And discovered that they pulled a Psycho! They made a shot-for-shot remake unironically, with little changes, less creativity and worse acting! If you wanted a remake of Beauty and the Beast with Emma Watson as the lead, why not make a new version of the story? Take as much liberties as you want, and make a new version whilst keeping the familiar plot. It's very easy, and it's happened with both book adaptations and film remakes.

I remember how excited I was to watch this movie (I was still unaware about the real intentions Disney had with those remakes as ‘nostalgia bait’ to easily gross 1 billion dollars back in the day). To have Emma Watson and Dan Stevens as the leading roles seemed amazing, the first teasers looked great, I was ready to watch the remake of one of my favorite Renaissance Disney movies ever and have a good time. Needless to say how disappointed I was with what this movie turned out to be. And that’s how I got black pilled about Disney live action remakes!

Most the scenes most the dialogue was the same, but they changes they made were small but had huge impacts. Something like Belle not saying "thank you" and walking away during the cleaning scene totally changed it and ruined it

Emma Watson's Belle to Gaston: Nobody can change THAT MUCH. (This is her rejecting him. That line definitely screams "you don't deserve me anyway." It's so judgemental.) Og Belle to Gaston: I just don't deserve you. (Subtle way of rejecting a guy but at the same time remaining polite and humorous.)

This is so spot on. I was so excited to have a live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast because I thought they would respect the original. But they did not. At all. They sucked the magic right out of the movie in more ways than one. The characters are bland and annoying at best. Beast and Belle's relationship is barely there. I cringed all the way through Be Our Guest and Tale As Old As Time. The visual scenery is too dark and lifeless and just bleh.. I mean they didn't even keep that beautiful, bright shot of the woods contrasting with the dark, haunting music in the opening scene. Instead we get a creepy hand holding a rose against the background of the most boring castle I've ever seen.. yeah, that's gonna draw us right in. Also, it's unforgivable that they butchered my favorite lines in the whole movie. In the original, after Beast lets Belle go, Cogsworth asks why he would do such a thing when they were so close to being human again. And Beast replies, "I had to... Because.. I love her." This is such a pivotal moment for him. We see that he is changing and he is aware of it. He knows what he willingly gave up and he knows he did it for love. He can't go back to the same selfish monster that he was before. But in the remake, it's Mrs. Potts that delivers the line "Because he loves her." This honestly ticked me off more than anything else. This change makes the song Something There absolutely meaningless because throughout this movie, all the moments that we should have seen Belle and the Beast falling in love on their own are gone. All the little acts of kindness like Beast giving Belle his castle as a gift and lighting up at her happiness, Belle gently teaching him how to be more of a gentleman or helping him read. We get none of that in the remake so when he lets her go, it feels like Belle isn't leaving anything behind of importance to her. And it diminishes Beast's sacrifice in setting her free.

Agreed. I was very excited to watch it back in the day. Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens from my favorite show ever (Downton Abbey) as the Beast. All seemed amazing. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I watched it. It was terrible in such ways I never expected (like changing the lines, getting rid of the small acts of kindness and rendering the beast’s sacrifice meaningless like you’ve said). After that, I sort lost all hope about Disney live action remakes tbh :X .

That dance scene doesn't make sense at all in this remake , because before Beast took Belle on a journey to "the Paris of her childhood 🤢. And after that awkward dance , he asked her the same lines "are happy here with me " and Emma Watson replies *can anybody be happy if they aren't free"* WHAAAAAAAAT?????? in the animated classic , Belle was absolutely happy and inmersed in this romantic scene !, because she was romantic and living her dreams ! , that's why she put her head on his shoulder (like the song , no pun intended 😅) and smiled . She was just missing her father . I think if her father was OK at home , maybe she would be happy and the story would continue . But nope , Emma Watson thought that Og Belle wasn't feminist enough and gave her those stupid lines to make Belle more "realistic and grounded ".

What bothers me more in the 2017 movie is how Watson looks like she suffering and wants to get away as soon as possible. Her expressions seems like that she doesn’t seem to enjoy acting in this musical. But while the Live Action movie is otherwise really spectacular it is still lame, soulless and more boring to me than the 1991 animation classic. And Secondly, how these four years later the media still praises the film, like how "the 2017 Live Action has caught up in this present time while the timeless 1991 animation doesn’t feel like the 90s." And these same medias also says that Watson's Belle is now more feminist because "she is the only one who can read in this patriarchal village, the first person who invent the washing machine and because the 2017 Belle doesn’t need men at all." Sometimes, when I read these articles, I wonder that have they even watched these both version of Beauty and the Beast or are they just repeating each other’s opinions.

I can’t remember what snapped me out of thinking new live actions were cool, but I definitely remember looking and this Beauty and the Beast and started to understand how terrible it was. Especially on Emma’s part, upon learning how feminist she was becoming. And something else struck me. Towards the end when you said Belle wondered if the prince would have a beard, it had me think about something. This whole time we seen Bell and her love as the cursed Beast, due to the story and how it was branded. And when I been seeing livestreams of Disney Dreamlight Valley, how Beast came in as his cursed self, everyone started saying “he’s amazing like that,” “he’s strong,” “He’s the best that way.” People are forgetting that it’s a curse over his real self. This curse is suppose to be a pain that is desperately needed to be undone, not something permitted

My mother saw it this Saturday and she says it's fine that Belle can't sing well and the Beast is a jerk because '' His heart is cold and hasn't open yet! '' For Belle, the producers could choose an actress who can sing like Anna kendrick or Anne hataway (Ella from Ella enchanted.) For the Beast, it's not alright that his attitude was horrible. Belle is supposed to love him and he; didn't offer her a room, didn't give her his library so she can feel better and he wanted her to be happy, didn't use the magic book to teleported her to Maurice. He did more bad things than good ones. I can't like this character. In the original, he had an evolution. Rude at first but slowly became nicer and a good person. Here, for the majority of the film he was a big cruel jerk then became nice out of nowhere; after he told Belle to find her father. It was rushed and made no sense 😐

Listen I used to hate Disney when I was a child. I was the kind of girl who hated when the characters started to sing and dance ; I was the girl who made fun of the ridiculous thing of falling in love at first sight.... So then I watched Beauty and the Beast when I was 13....and everything in this movie was so original and great for me !. Belle was like me at the time : a bookworm, a daydreamer, a girl who wanted a better life , a girl who felt unaccepted by the people around. And then I saw the Beast !, someone who felt isolated by the world by his appearance (I have albinism, so at that time I wasn't too happy about my appeals, lol) and the romance between the two was incredibly believable, so sweet, so charming . This movie became my ALL TIME FAVORITE Disney MOVIE, maybe the only one I've watched several times , even with memorized dialogues in both English and Spanish (I am latin ) So, can you imagine my horror and disappointing when I knew this remake was going to happen ?. And my disappointing became bigger when I watched this crap!. The awful cgi, Emma Watson's acting and singing , the character's development, the chemistry between them .... EVERYTHING WAS awful!! Sorry , hope I'm making sense, loved your comments about this crap and I am glad there's people like me who appreciated that 1991 masterpiece . Thank goodness this crap won't EVER be nominated as best picture at the Oscars like the 1991 was

The beast had no expression because they changed the way he looked from the og. Og he is HUGE his face is 4 times that of belle. His eyebrows are huge stick out and are the main reason of his emotive qualies. His teeth are upwards and big always showing.his horns face foward and are short looking demonic in the shadow when he finds maurice. His nose is bulky and sticks out far showing a huge 3d side profile of somthing you dont wanna mess with. All these quality make his emotions from sad to severe depressed to happy to monsterous so much more huge of a impact. The remake his horns go backwards removing this demonic aspect with ram his teeth are downwards and small his eyebrows are barely there so no emotions to be found there his nose flate so no snarling or emotions there...his ears..i tried finding them idek if he has them. You see him lay on the bed and his side profile is flat. Just like everything in this movie it falls flat. The beast is one of the most wide emotive character. He has extreme rage to extreme happy to extreme sad and everything within. You know whats up with him by looking at him. They failed on all grounds...even his tail and cape they made it so ragged you dont even see his body or size. Its a abimination of the art of glen. Not to mention the abomination of the transformation scene... the og is one of the most coolest scenes the way he caccoons the way his arms and feet fall out and move like sculptures..to a tiny turn and poof that whas it.. i cant i just cant

You explained this so perfectly, thAnk you. It's so clear that it's not just nastolgia that makes everyone like the original better. This is just genuinely so much worse. The colors are bland, the lighting is dark and dull, the backgrounds look fake, the music is mid, the characters are painfully unexpressive and lack chemistry, and their designs are just overall worse. Anything that made them look unique, charming, and recognizable was stripped away. You can recognize the original characters just by their silhouettes or voices because their so well designed and iconic. There is none of that here. Gone is the beautifully smooth, expressive animation. Gone are the colorful painted backgrounds that made the world feel alive. Gone is the charm and beauty in the music. Gone are the personalities and development that made us love the characters in the first place. It's literally just a sad husk of what made the first film so grand. :( On a side note, I can't help but giggle every time you say "This dUMB movie" it sums it up perfectly.

Belle was my favourite Disney Princess back in my childhood but Emma Belle just isn't it, I wondered how things will turned out if Emma doesn't interfered with Belle as a character and fashion's choices for Belle, I doubt things can changed as much given that the CGI Beast looks shallow in its own right and the script is just so plain, perhaps the movie were intended for disaster since Disney know how powerful nostalgia bait can be that they didn't bother to do well with the live action version, just put any famous actor or actress and slap some political movement in it and there you have it.

Animation Gaston is the textbook definition of toxic masculinity without being too preaching about it. The villagers are also reconcilable. People who are narrow minded, mean and confuse meaningless agreson with power. The beast becomes a prince because he loves Bel and he opens up to her. He is not alone anymore. The when the beast grows as a character, he becomes a prince. This is how healthy masculinity looks like. Trying to impress the woman you love, self secrefice, compassion and only fight in self defense or to protect others. They butchered the movie by making Gaston an incell. By making the beast a snob. By giving the villagers redemption at the end, even though they don't deserve it. All the valuable lessons wich the animated movie teach us without being preaching about it and focusing on the characters and story and present those ideas sublime on a playful way. Now it's identity politics first and story second. There are no valuable lessons to be learned. The characters are awful. They are not relatable and no role models for young kids. Disney is it so hard to hire talented writers and directors and create something new? However I heard that encanto is a good movie. It really is to look for a needle in a haystack.

I thought that the cast was perfect: Emma Watson as Belle, Dan Stevens as the Prince, Josh Gad as Le Fou, etc it had everything to make a good remake but they simply ruined everything that made the original 1991 animation great. Emma Watson also had a lot to do with the butchering of this film by not having the slightest idea about Belle’s mindset and personality, so what could have been the greatest asset by having a young and beautiful actress as the leading role turned out to be a curse lol the irony. This movie truly blackpilled me about Disney remakes and I simply wish Disney would stop making those and focus on original movies instead like Encanto (which was AMAZING. I love the change with Gaston. In the original, he acts like a jerk, so the audience can directly understand why Belle is not interested in him (99.9% would not be attracted to someone throwing your belongings in a mood, come on). In the new one, it's more ambiguous where Gaston stands, but Belle still doesn't like him, and that's okay. As women, you can say no to men's advances despite whether they are good or not. If you don't click with someone, you should respect your feelings.
