Honestly, Don Quixote is actually a pretty cool novel. He gets beaten up a lot but he actually does win most of his fights unless blatantly outnumbered or disadvantaged in some way, and he's genuinely intelligent; it's just that everyone indulges his madness. Also, the windmill scene is like 2 pages long if that.
@Boltscrap
@Boltscrap 4 ай бұрын
And it got the 1600s version of Golden Films /Dingo Pictures treatment, as there's many unauthorized sequel novels that were released when it got popular, we know this because the actual sequel from the same author as the original novel included some choice words about the bootleg sequels cashing in on his work.
@sacrecharlemagne2262
@sacrecharlemagne2262 2 ай бұрын
@Boltscrap There is literally a running joke that one of the bootleg novels actually exists in Don Quixote's universe, written by someone who heard some stories about the guy and added his own helping of bullshit. Don Quixote will enter a scene and a character will go "Oh you must be Don Quixote! I read your book. I really like the adventure where you did x" and Don Quixote will be confused because x is some bullshit he did in one of the bootleg sequels. In the first book, Don Quixote's goal was to participate in a tournament in Barcelona. In the second book, when he and Sancho are right outside the city, Don Quixote decides to turn around and go back home specifically because his unauthorized biography said that he fought in the tournament (several months before Don Quixote ever went on his second adventure) and he doesn't want to give the fraudster the satisfaction of accidentally being right.

I actually watched an incredibly well done street play based on the novel! It wasn't an exact adaptation, but they had good acting, live music, a giant windmill prop that could change into a monster that could be moved, and a horse prop that actually looked fantastical, yet somehow realistic (it was all incredibly well done).

I think it's pretty funny to have "Morgan" tell the Merlin's tales in Merlin's (Magic) Cave. Cuz wasn't Morgan the name of one of Arthur and Merlin's enemies? This implies they're no longer around but don't worry their good buddy Morgan is still here to take care of their stuff because she killed them.

Ironically "The Secret of Beauty and the Beast" would make FAR more sense than "The Secret of the Hunchback" or Mulan or Anastasia. What an unusual VHS, but not gonna lie, there's something really pretty about the (Not VHS butchered) animation of this "Beauty And The Beast". The stylization of the characters with that thin, inky lineart makes for some really nice visuals, it'd work really well as art for a children's fantasy storybook! "Don Quixote" too, but in addition to that one it really REALLY seems like the people working on it took inspiration from Van Gogh for the backgrounds! It's really stunning in my opinion! Thank you again for sharing, Phelous!

Manga Sekai Musashi Banashi was actually pretty neat for its time. It aired 2 episodes a week (if I remember correctly) and had different teams doing the stories. Not a big budget or perfect adaptations, but they'd experiment with different art styles and covered a lot of obscure stories. Speaking of anime adaptations of fairy tales, as a kid I remember watching _The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,_ which was an anime, though at the time I was so young that I wouldn't know what an anime was if you told me. It adapts four _Oz_ novels, quite faithfully too. I actually re-watched it just a few years ago, and it really holds up. I recall as a kid seeing one episode that ends on a cliffhanger, an egg rolling down stairs towards a Nome army, and then missing the next episode, then coming back the next day to see what was clearly the first episode. Turns out I missed the final episode, and I was only when I rewatched the whole thing online did I finally get closure.

It took me a while to track it down on KZbin, but I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was really scary. Still love it. Thank you for the great video, as always. This is one of the very first KZbin channels I ever subscribed to. Phealous, I would love to see you do a video on the old animated, flick, stowaways on the ark. I’m not Christian and I wasn’t raised as such, but it’s a fun little animated Bible story that I grew up once again watching on VHS. It’s pretty fun. It would make a great video for this channel.

The beast design here isn't too bad! Interesting how both the animes have decently designed Beasts.

I had this version of "Beauty & The Beast" on a VHS when I was a kid, I bought it from a "Dollar Store" back in the day, and it was an odd case. The VHS came in a box that had no top and had some laughably bad artwork, also the VHS had a label for "Big Bad Beetle Borgs" for some oddball reason. Thankfully I didn't buy BBBB by mistake. The tape I recall only had two of the three stories, "Beauty & The Beast" and "Don Quixote", it stopped before it got to the "Noah's Ark" segment. As for the main presentation, the "Beauty & The Beast" segment wasn't too bad, but it was too short. The animation wasn't bad either, but nowhere near as good as the "Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics" version. And as for "Don Quixote", one positive I'll say is, it did get interested in checking out the book (which I've still never read), the like with the "Beauty & The Beast" segment, it was too short. This is the first time I'm seeing the "Noah's Ark" segment, and pretty sure that it suffers the same fate as the other two. Also when I saw the girl playing the harp, I noticed one of her breasts was hanging, or at least it looked like, you know, for the kids. LOL

This just proves how the world loves this damn story. There must be thousands of Beauty and the Beast adaptations, and he's gonna have to review EACH one.

I saw this when I was a little girl, honestly, could not resist watching this. I still watch it occasionally, just to keep myself busy when I'm well doing some artwork. Regardless, it's a pretty good cartoon, even though it looks kind of weird. It It has an anime quality from the 90s so to speak

The fun thing about these reviews is that the various memes just keep building and building. Eventually we'll hit critical mass and all die or something, but it's a fun ride until then!

"Wonderful Wonderful Tales From Around the World" is literally one of the Pat Morita titles but with two Wonderfuls in front of it. It's amazing another one exists (genuinely; it's a very fun concept to work with.) I did hear Old Man's original actor is dead, but Old Man himself will never die as long as you keep finding Beauty and the Beast adaptations to talk about. I'm beginning to wonder if Beauty and the Beast is even an exhaustible resource at this point.

To be fair Beauty's father does recover quickly as soon as he sees Beauty in the original story as Beauty is a good nurse and treats him, maybe he was just poorly with grief.

You should look at the Beauty and the Beast: Crimson Flower version as a bit of palett cleanser. It's a Soviet production, so the animation is very pretty.

If you ever run out of cartoons of Beauty & the Beast, you'll always have the original story that involves a lot more things like fae politics (if I remember correctly) and books. From children's illustrated books (commentary is for the artwork), books inspired by the fairy tale, and manga. You'll never escape, my friend, but we'll gladly ride with you as you collect more "fathers" that'll ditch their children* to save themselves. *Sometimes, Beauty is Beau!!
