This is bar far the best video I have ever watched on grey coverage. And sadly it’s the oldest by 6 years. None of the other KZbin hair salon experts mention your technique of using volume 20 which blows my mind! Thank you, your advice is gold!
@linab72483 жыл бұрын
I just want to take the time to THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART. My greys are so stubborn that my own hairdresser couldn't cover them for 4.5 + years. He would just put highlites in to blend them. As they greys started popping up more, the highlites were no longer satisfactory. I tried a whole bunch of professional double pigmented dyes and nothing worked! I told my hairdresser that I am fed up with these grey's and I am sooo close to just going to box dye. I was desperate! I mentioned this video, the advice that you gave and the technique. He immediately remember the technique from school from the 90's ( he mentioned that this teq. is no longer shared at cosmetology school, the new hairstylists at the salon never heard of this teq. either ) and went ahead and did it... IT WORKED. it's the only this that has worked. You saved me from going to box dye. Thanks you sm

I have many older very white haired clients. I use Joico NG & NNG because they need the G or they will pull the base & they have no pigment in hair. I use 5 volume Paul Mitchell peroxide because it deposits more and doesn’t fade. I just go up a # on the color to keep from going dark. Put them under the dryer for 5 minutes plastic cap on color. Set for 20 more minutes Love Joico color it holds up so well .

I love the way you change the color of your grandmother's hair. I too I have stubborn Greys that won't cover. I see using a developer to bring your hair color up penetrates the shaft of the hair and one applying the actual dye to be absorbed into the hair follicle. I am not a beautician but my mom used to go to beauty school so thank you for your tutorial on stubborn hair.
@sarahop76506 жыл бұрын
I like to add about an inch line of the next darker color ( for example if I’m using 5NN, I’d add an inch of 4NN) and process with a cap so the heat of the head stays contained and really helps to cover and penetrate those annoying gray roots!
@lindasparks72246 жыл бұрын
My trick is that I pre pigment stubborn grey around hairline with straight color, one shade lighter , because it will come out darker, kind of what nn is doing i gues adding more dye molecules. I use a liquid color which make it easier. I have heard of the peroxide idea but forgot about it thanks for the reminder. I have been doing hair 35 years I am so thankful for KZbin where I can keep learning.

Linda Sparks haven’t worked much with gray but my mom is about 75-100% gray ,and her hair has not been colored in over a year !!! Let’s say she wants level 8 ... would I pre color her hair with just the color itself scalp to end of gray with a 7 , all through down to where it hits color ( from last years color ) then go right over the pre colored with my 8 color& 20 vol mix ?? Should I let the precolor soak first ??? Thank you !!
@lindasparks72246 жыл бұрын
These techniques are only needed if the grays really stubborn. Otherwise just use 8nn and 20 volume. I have tried the 20 volume first like Jess did here it works well. I usually only do the straight color technique around hair line and darker like 4 or 5. But when you do it you need use one shade lighter, because it takes darker and it does not need to soak in. I think it basically makes it like an NN , double piggmant

@robinastips69866 жыл бұрын
Jessi Gish I know. I just wanted to make sure you knew about that in case you wondered why it wasn't working well. Lol. I use everything Redken. I think it's the first 15 mins it pulls the color Out and the last minutes it deposits fully. I usually do the front of the head first then the back and then set the timer for 40 because I figure the front is on for 5 when I'm applying the back. It usually comes out great. A little tricky too. Lol.

What's your strategy for clients with 50% grey that only want blonde foils? Sometimes I use an 8 grey coverage and 30 volume and it doesn't lift enough depending on the color line, or just doing bleach will just result in white highlights. Thanks!
@Zero0Karma2 жыл бұрын
I tried the developer into the Gray to soften.. Then added color mix. Nothing happened. Didn't work
@NativeNYerChicHK4 жыл бұрын
But 20 volume is less strength peroxide at 6% than 30 volume which is 9% peroxide. Why would you leave the stronger one on longer? That would only serve to cause more damage, what you’re saying doesn’t make sense. To achieve the desired level of lift using both comparatively, you’d need to leave the weaker one on longer and the stronger one for a shorter amount of time because you’re also always trying to preserve the strength in the structure of the hair. I’m thinking you meant the other way around.

When you pull through over the bleached highlights, if there was any length of her hair, "those" highlights would break. I dont agree with pulling it through at the end either....for the 10 minutes - as this weakens the highlighted baby strands and they will break. (45 years experienced as a Colorist)

Jessi Gish Hi, I am not a hair stylist like you are but I do that with my hair too. I have stubborn grays so I apply 20 volume and let it sit on my hair for 10-15 min because then the color comes out even, if I don't I end up with brown hair near the bottom and hot roots near the top (not cute). People who are saying it isn't safe is ridiculous. People apply bleach to their hair which is much more harsh compared to 20 volume developer.
