I kinda agree but wouldn't say regular person just like us in reality. I think humans in atla still have some form of resistance to elements at least the benders to their own a bit. Just try to imagine making fire with your pure hands, it would burn you too. Or the ice cold breath from waterbending would definitely damage your throat in reality. Or maybe I'm overthinking it 😅

So what I'm trying to say is IF bending was real than chances are high some benders wouldn't survive their own training.

Well their custom is what kept their population while the southern tribe has no city. I can understand he made an exception for katara but she was really disrespectful, I guess its part of her growth as a rebellious child.

Culture is nothing more than a set of traditions a group of people adhere to. And, all traditions were newly adopted at some point in the history of those people. Changing traditions should never be done lightly. But, a group of people should never be so rigid that traditions and culture become a self imposed prison cell.

Katara was such a good fighter in this episode!!!! You gotta remember Aang is a pacifist! Raised by Monks, majority of his fights are defensive and only offensive to get out of the situation, but Sokka and Katara have had to learn a way to be less lethal but also think like a Airbender! Plus, Katara Has been in many battles before that fight where she started barely knowing how to throw water at someone but has now been so resourceful to make her own style of fighting and to your point, she’s very reaction battle iq based! I made a story essay a long time ago about the Strong women in kid Media, and how they break the social norms and even the stereotypes, some even follow the stereotypes but are so amazing at what they do that it doesn’t even become overbearing to the story like it was tryna push a Agenda, although the avatar story lowkey started with lots of misogyny it’s quickly defused by the strong women who use there brains and there strength and skill and passion to make them loving characters that everyone finds cool.

Imagine being THE waterbending master for God knows how long, then this girl shows up, says your entire culture is bs, challenges you to a 1v1, and not only comes close to winning, she almost decapitates you. Even though they ended it on a positive note, Pakku must've had nightmares about Katara for at least a week
