A very good, engaging discussion of frequency. I used to teach electronic music at the college level and worked with frequency and wave forms every semester. A bit of trivia for you about your violin. The sound of a violin is created by combining 20 different wave forms and frequencies.

Frequency is measured in hertz - not Hertz. It is important to use the lowercase as the upper case is the person that the unit was named after - Heinrich Hertz. So hertz and Hz. Units named after people have lowercase for the entire word - and yet uppercase when abbreviated. Other examples include coulomb - C, volts - V, ampere - A. The way to know a unit is NOT named after someone is when the abbreviation is lowercase e.g. metre - m, second - s, there was no Mr Second. One exception is litre - sometimes written L mainly because if you type 1l it can look like the number eleven - so it is sometimes written 1L, 10mLs etc. It is also correct to write 10mls, but it may depend on what country you are in.
