Once they develop it can become competitive(It's usually like this for a lot of predator birds, even for siblings). However, when they're younger the urge to push other eggs out is compulsive and instinctual, their backs are hypertrophied to give them enough strength to do this. It's like feeling an itch on your back

Most birds aren't as intelligent as a lot of KZbin commenters like to say they are, unfortunately. Though, even if they did, the Cuckoo mother will sometimes check nests of their hosts and will often destroy them if their offspring was thrown out. Which both discourages genes of birds good at detecting the swap, and prompts them to start a new set of hatchlings, if done early into the season.

Looks to me the baby had to poop and the egg got in the way. Mom got his poop shortly after. He’s smaller than the others, and cuckoos generally pick nests of smaller birds early on so the difference won’t be noticed as much and it will be easier to to push out the other babies.

When a mother bird leaves her eggs for a moment, the cuckoo will actually lay her egg in that nest. When the cuckoo hatches it will push out other chicks and/or eggs. I think this poses a problem for macro-evolutionists. To develop an ingrained tendency to drop an egg in a foreign nest, have the cuckoo become indistinguishable to the alternate mother, and the cuckoo to chuck the other birds in the nest, would require hundreds of thousands or millions of attempts to establish. That's a trait that seems to me to be nigh unto impossible. On the other hand, if it's divine intent then God would seem to have a wicked sense of humor.

Birds (nearly every species) don’t lay all of their eggs at once. A full clutch typically consists of eggs laid several days apart from each other. This means it’s extremely common to have hatchlings with one or two unhatched eggs, or siblings that look like they’re in completely different life stages.

So I have a question that google can't seem to give me as it just keeps reiterating that cuckoos shove the host eggs/babies out of the nest by instinct (no duh, we get it google). How can they tell other cuckoo eggs/babies apart from the host eggs/babies? From what I can tell they don't push their fellow brood parasites out, just the host babies but then google also tells me they will push any object (even a human hand) out of the nest by instinct. If that is the case does that mean they can tell each other apart from the host babies via smell or something similar? I mean if they don't push out other cuckoo eggs then we'd have to rule sound out so smell is really all I can think of. I even tried looking up experiments to see what objects they might push out of a nest but google scholar is just a hot mess these days. Just curious and didn't want to bother posting the question on Reddit :p
