Beavers FLOODED The Forest. I Am Going To DRAIN It. PART#2

Hello,
Beavers flooded the forest. A lot of trees has died. Water almost was in the garden. I had to drain the forest. Aftewards I will put PVC pipe under the dam to avoid such a problems in the future. It's PART #2

a word of advice: before you remove a dam, put a few drops of liquid detergent (dish soap) in the water. Leave it for a couple of days. This will get the beavers to leave that water source and so they won't rebuild. The detergent affects the oil in their fur. The marks left by an animal's feet are called paw (or hoof/foot) prints.

I'll bet they build them better than we do. only trouble is the materials they use can decompose, but they always maintain it. Now if we could teach them to work with steel rebar and concrete they could maintain all the dams in the world. Maybe they can fix the three gorges dam in China.

The beaver lodge is built much like the dams. Interwoven sticks, logs, mud and the entrance is under water as it provides security from predators. Any predator trying to break into the home through the top the beavers can leave underwater. Once the pond is drained it exposes the entrance and the beavers know to go repair the dam to provide the security again for the family in the lodge. They are known as natures engineers for their stellar lodge and dam building.

Good eye spotting that beaver slide. Fingerlings hide from big fish where they don't get hassled since they're good eating. You could win a bet that the beavers are sitting in their lodge planning a remedy to your dam busting.

It would have been very interesting to have a camera at the down stream dam as you opened this big one up. Just a view as to how much water you are really letting flow.

Make sure you drill holes in the PVC that's behind the dam. You should use approximately 15 feet of pipe behind the dam. The beavers will try to stop up the end, but are confused about the holes.

Such signicant work to save and preserve an ecosystem. Wonderful that you could see footprints of deer the next day. Really loved the drone footage at the beginning (before clearing dam), and the footage after clearing showing the results of your work, the chance for the forest to rehabilitate, and the first signs of beautiful Autumn.

Hello, Mantas (or is your name Mantis?). Are the property owners aware of the work you are doing for them? Loss of trees should have some economic effects, I would think. Clearly the beavers are very large, much bigger than the North American varieties. In North America I do not know whether the beavers cause damage as you’ve shown in Lithuania. In the USA they are considered to be beneficial. Is it the same in your county? It’s good that the beavers don’t have access to HIMARS or your life could be in peril! Are you not worried while walking around after removal near en of video, about those (huge) beavers chasing you cuz of how teritorial they can be or cuz they are angry thanks to their dams being destroyed?? Or has your friends trapped and removed/killed them? I just heard you saying that you were kind of worried or didnt want to really walk around much!! Also i noticed how well you were able to walk without sinking or getting stuck in the deep mud, was the ground not like quicksand and didnt the ground try swallowing up your boots, because you dont have webbed feet alike beavers,lol?? thanks very much for all your videos that you've been sharingwith us, keep up the great work!!!!

Your viewers will demand it, lol.) I was beginning to wonder where the beavers were because you keep having to clear dams but we never saw much sign of who/what was building them. Now we know where they live!!!

Great 2 days of work!! Those beavers have caused a lot of damage to some beautiful countryside. Their lodges are huge!!! 3 in such a small area, are there any plans to trap or hunt to get rid of them and preserve whats left of the forest???

You did a great thing draining this dam, so much of the forest was being destroyed. Will you go back and check on it and drain it if necessary to restore the forest to what it once was?

I've checked it already this place is under control ;) Hunters put beaver trap. So beavers won't come there anymore ;)

If this dam was in a forest, why did you need to remove it? I understand why you remove them near fields used by farmers or near roads that could be affected, but why remove a dam in a natural forest setting?

Actually the water was already several meters from my friend's house. Also this forest belongs to him. He faced a lot of losses.
