Look at this chain!! It is gorgoeus, clean sharp mechanics ... just wow. And the rotary switches are the cleanest and more sofisticated ones I’ve ever seen!

Have you ever seen an STV 401 from VEB Messelektronik Berlin? I believe it's a very similar instrument to this: a selective RF microvoltmeter designed for use in measuring RF interference. It has a measuring range of 0.26-300MHz. They also made one for 26MHz-1GHZ, the SMV 8.5.

We connect with tv all behind with the associated arithmetic circuits. These circuits are designed to use the least amount of computational elements. Only the circuit for the second-order Pade approximation is not optimal in this sense. On condition that 0.6 TL Z K k = 10 s -1 ; TL ≥ 0.06 s, a circuit can be found for the second-order approximation") that only needs three amplifiers (Fig. 7.42). The values in brackets are set when KTL < 6. or so for Figure 7.42 Circuit for the second-order Padé approximation with only three operational amplifiers It should be noted with all these circuits that they normally do not are fully controllable, but that the maximum permissible input voltage depends on the size of the set running time, and the rule here applies: Ue Sk TL. (7.28) So we have e.g. B. in the arithmetic circuit 7.42 an arrangement in which we can set any desired running time by appropriate adjustment of the potentiometer. Now this circuit is only an approximation of a pure runtime system. How good this approximation is depends on the form or the spectrum of the input function. Figure 7.43 shows the locus curve of the circuit Figure 7.42, which we obtained directly with the analog computer³). From the locus curve it can be seen that the increase in the angle at the beginning according to Eq. (7.26) corresponds to the required linear progression. Up to wTL = 100 2) The trick is that you first need to use the transfer function of the approximation! subtracts the value one, sets up a circuit for the new function in which one can then easily add the value one again. 3) The points of the locus were taken from the respective transient process for the concerned Frequencies determined in that the associated values of the Fourier integrals for real and imaginary part calculated by the calculator itself.

How did the designer come up with it and how does one create the instructions in such a manner that someone other than the designers could actually manufacture this without faults. QA must have been quite a big portion of the manufacture time for such a device. And then calibration, that is a lot of variable capacitors, potentiometers, inductors,...

Siemens measuring equipment division was so big. With so many brilliant circuit designers and engineers. Still, it's fascinating that they achived such a device, at a time without computers and such. There are even more parts (inductors) to calibrate. They are located under the first layer of variable capacitors.
