*Just once in my life before I die, I would like to drive from Tweed to Brisbane without having to deal with roadworks* - Just to feel what it's like!

I moved because of that and the endless construction of new buildings. It's ok for a holiday

Hard to believe that Bullock and horses provided the labour for the first roads.

Sound cuts out at 16:13 , to 17:46. Why?.
@QueenslandStateArchives3 жыл бұрын
That is a great question! Thank you for asking. Sound can be interrupted or missing completely from film due to degradation or magnetization prior to reaching the archives. There are times when the films we receive are missing separate sound discs (records) and tapes completely. While its unfortunate this film is missing sound in a section, we are grateful to have sound at all! We hope that answers your question.

@@QueenslandStateArchives Lost audio: is it the case the scripts also have been lost for re-voicing?

@@QueenslandStateArchives It's a shame because the sound literally drops out at a critical moment when discussing the logistic efforts for military operations during the Pacific War!

14:00 why did qld make roads for Northern Territory?.
@QueenslandStateArchives3 жыл бұрын
Another great question! Legal responsibility for roads in the Territories is borne by the Australian Government while in the States it is shared between the State road authorities, local governments and, in some cases other authorities established by the State Governments. I learnt that USA during WW2 shipped in equipment for road building in the outback, didn't know mining equipment ws used

If you look carefully around Moorooka,Rocklea,Salisbury and Archerfield the evidence of US bases still stands .
