Rare Unseen Historical Photographs of Brisbane Australia 1951 to 1970. Brisbane is the capital and most populous city of Queensland and the third-most populous city in Australia. Brisbane lies at the center of South East Queensland, which includes several other regional centers and cities. Brisbane is named after the Brisbane River, which in turn was named after Sir Thomas Brisbane, the governor of New South Wales from 1821 to 1825.

The Teachers' Training College at 1.17, was formal the Domestic Science High School (Girls). It became the KGCAE (Kelvin Grove College of Advanced Education) then the BCAE (Brisbane CAE) and is now QUT (Queensland University of Technology). It still provides teacher education, but the campus covers an enormous area compared with when I attended in the 1960s and 70s.

Very nostalgic as l am a Brit living in France it reminds me of the U.K. In the fifties especially the elderly ladies.

French Rugby Players on a balcony on the Albert Hotel, next to the Tivoli Theatre, opposite City Hall. All those buildings were demolished to make way for King George Square...and the eyesore we see today. No one gives a flying fox about King George, but they killed our heritage buildings anyway. So sad.

The original King George Square had lawns and fountains and was lovely. The current abomination is a fiasco.
