He wasn't making fun of himself, he was finally letting go of all the pain and suffering he'd been holding on to for so long. Finally forgiving his mom. Having a kid changed his life and made him see that there is something to live for, someone to live for. He finally allowed God to clean up his mind and heart. Depression is real and it's a fight. He said the 30 years line at the end 31 times because he just turned 31. So it was 30 years of old NF, depression, pain, suffering, no hope in sight but year 31 is a new light, a new chapter, a new start. NF is hands down the G.O.A.T.

It's not him poking fun at his old self. It's more about his "real" journey with his mental health and how he has grown . You can follow his progression from album to album. When his mix tape came out and even slightly before that you could see everything lining up to come out with a much more positive outtake in life in general. His connection with his fans and being that voice for those that can't or don't know how to put into words the troubles they may be experiencing and more importantly how to push past those negative thoughts that their are people all over with similar problems. Even you where talking about how dark his music is but you can go back all the way to therapy session and even before even with it's dark "atmosphere the underlying message was in achieving a positive attitude and mental health.

The video is definitely a love letter to some of his old songs. In "The Search" - he says that he is looking for the map to hope (you seen it?) and now he has it. When I finally sets off in the right direction, his 'evil self' throws him back into "The Mansion", which is a metaphor for his mind. In there he sees lots of his past in videos which I leave readers to explore if they are into this music and haven't seen them yet. In it are all his 'symbols' from past vids as well. The black balloons (his burdens), the smile he has to paint on his face, the cage he was trapped in, etc. Quite impressive when you are fan of his!!!
@kimmimulder10 ай бұрын
This song plays ode to all of his past albums, moods, feelings, thoughts, songs, and past videos. The "my album" in baking voices, is all the parts of him that he's accepted and shown still saying "I'm here and you're not forgetting us" In previous songs he says "I'm looking for the map to hope, have you seen it?" And he's holding up a blank "map" and taking advice from his past. When he's shoved into the mansion, it's straight ode to that song, how the different floors are different levels off his psyche. In the basement you see his darkness and all the balloons (symbols of the burdens he's always carrying around him) In the other room is the cage that's in several videos as well as the "senior nf" featured in the video called I'm sorry where he dies over and over as himself while the old man just watches passively... the fact that the old man is holding the keys to his own prison is yet another concept of being trapped in your own past. Then, on the peak, he mentions holding his son to windows and never looking out them I'm loss, as well as says I forgive you momma - both from past songs and videos talking of waiting for the parent who never arrives for visits and never forgiving his mother for (suicide I think). Last... I think the flashes between white and dark nf at the end battle is admitting he is still human and the darkness is never completely gone. Just my... breakdown on the way the video and lyrics run.

I don't like that people feel the need to defend an artist when they don't pay attention to both sides. I 100% listen to NF daily; several of his songs are in my liked playlist. I understand that sometimes it's upsetting when someone else's view of a song is negative to a song you like, but that does not mean you can shame the other person. (Please read the reply's underneath)
@unKn0WnPNG7 ай бұрын
Realize that this is ONE song out of ALL of NF's music. Also, I do agree that the "making fun of himself" comment was a little down-putting, however if you took the time, like I did, to check the comments FULLY, you would see that he did acknowledge someone's explanation on how NF wasn't "making fun of himself."
@unKn0WnPNG7 ай бұрын
Moral of the story, check before you step. Make sure you know the full context. Make sure you aren't hating on someone for having an opinion that's different to yours. And most of all, remember that he is reacting to a single song out of the entirety of NF's discography. He as a reactor/composer/artist knows that one song does not define an artist's musical ability/appeal.

The whole gimmick of black it's like everybody else so much anger so much frustration so much anxiety anybody can be what he projects in his dark yourself. Since he's had a son this is the first album he's had which gives him a different view on certain situations in his life and knowing that he has to make a change and like everyone else we can relate to the situations and the struggles because it feels like he's talking to you and not just himself
