Amazing how this video came together, with Brie coming in at the very last minute.. With the original actress bowing out with a previous, unbreakable commitment, Edgar Wright knew Allison Brie socially, but not professionally and thought of her for the part. She loved Beck's music and Edgar's directing style. When she agreed to do the part, she came in with just two days rehearsal (SAT,SUN) and two days shooting (MON,TUE). @@gabrielantos4144 I was curious if it was indeed us, or actually the British who added the U. As with much of reality, the answer was actually more complicated than that. According to Vats Mittal from Quora Both spellings are many centuries old. Color, now regarded as the American spelling, in fact predates the United States by several centuries. In early use the spellings vied for ascendancy with several other spellings. Colur, culoure, and coolor, for instance, were all in the mix before the modern British spelling gained permanent prevalence in the 17th century.1 The American preference for color took hold in the middle 19th century thanks in large part to the conscious simplification of English spellings by people such as the lexicographer Noah Webster. Noah Webster lived smack in the middle of the time when Americans were still trying to form a country and figure out who they were. To give you some perspective, the United States Constitution was ratified between the time Webster published his first spelling book and when he started working on his famous dictionary. Americans were eager to break with Britain as fully as possible and weren’t even sure that English should be the primary language. Nearly 10% of the population spoke German, so some people suggested German should be our language. 1. “Zee” Versus “Zed” Noah Webster's influence is why Americans call the final letter "zee" instead of "zed." Webster undertook his first big project--an American spelling book to replace the British book schools were then using--in part, to settle the matter and convince people that our language should be English, but American English. It was in this book that he took small steps to begin creating American spellings. It was also in the speller that he taught Americans to pronounce the name of the final letter of the alphabet as “zee” instead of “zed” as the British do. 2. Political Rationale for Spelling Reform Webster is best known now as the dictionary writer, but in his time he was involved in politics and knew George Washington and Benjamin Franklin quite well. He regularly wrote political essays, letters, and tracts, and early in his career, he felt that an American language was necessary to hold the county together. In his lectures, he criticized Americans for studying Hebrew, Greek, Latin, French, and German, but neglecting English; and he wrote, “America must be as independent in literature as she is in politics---as famous for arts as for arms.” 3. The Compendious Dictionary: “Color” Versus “Colour” and More Before he wrote his big dictionary, he wrote a smaller book titled the Compendious Dictionary, and it was in this work that he really got rolling on spelling reform. For example, He dropped the “u” from “colour,” “honour,” and “a few words of that class” as he called them in his introduction. He changed “theatre” (re) to “theater "(er). He substituted an “s” for the “c” in “defence," “offence,” and “pretence.” He dropped the second “l” in words such as “travelled” and “cancelled.” He changed the “s” to “z” in a few words such as “patronise.” He also included changes that had already been suggested by others such as omitting the “k” from the end of “magic” and “logic” and spelling “risk” with a “k” instead of a “que” at the end. www.quora.com/Why-does-American-English-exclude-the-letter-u-from-words-such-as-color-whereas-British-English-uses-it#:~:text=M%20answer%20views-,Originally%20Answered%3A%20Why%20do%20Americans%20use%20the%20spelling%20color%20and,that%20and%20other%20spelling%20reforms.

Man Beck is still kicking butt and is so very underrated. I ask friends if they heard of his recent stuff and all I get is, "the guy who wrote 'Loser?'" Then I play stuff from Odelay, Guero, and The Information and suddenly they're like, "oooh right, he wrote this?!?" I was pleasantly surprised to see Alison Brie in this as I am a big fan of hers when she was on Community, she can really dance!

Dearest Beck, When sea change came out in 2002 I had just moved to AZ from Ohio after graduating high school and was the loneliest I had ever been in my life. Sea Change helped me navigate those insanely desolate waters. 22 years later, I am back in Ohio, estranged from my family after living in a tent in the woods for 9 months, living out of my truck and working at dunkin donuts to save up money to build a house for me and my son. Those waters in 2002 prepared me for the rocky, lonely waters I face now and you have helped give me the strength to endure so much in my life, I dont know how I could ever thank you. You've taught me how to unapologetically be myself and embrace the abstract. Thank you so much for just being the amazing person you are. See you at RIOTFEST. -Brad
