One of the problems is that Christianity isn't only a religious belief system it is an all encompassing worldview. Unfortunately a different worldview has captured the collective consciousness of humanity in the modern scientific age. Arguing from the basis of scriptural authority is only convincing to people who take seriously the bible as a revelation from the true God. However one can demonstrate fairly convincingly that the statements of the scripture are accurate and true and are not only internally consistent but also can be independently verified and confirmed. This does not mean that every doctrine of faith is capable of being understood in a purely rational framework, but most of the fundamentals can be supported by independent philosophical and empirical exploration, observable testable theory and evidence. This fact does not at all mean that we should have a default position where scripture can not be trusted unless there is some kind of independent corroboration. A source of huge confusion is the tendency for bible believing orthodox christians to equate homosexual sin with depraved immorality and corrupt moral character, the new testament writings must be into a cultural and historical context of the prevailing paganism of those times where homosexulity and other kinds of sexual perversions was literally religious practice.

The problem with Christianity today is that we seem to think we can argue someone to Christianity. We explain all the reasons why they should not follow blm, gender equality, love is love etc etc. However, we aren’t called to talk on those issues. We are called to preach the Gospel because that ALONE is how someone can be set free and see the truth.

We are called to engage our culture, and represent CHRIST in the culture, and that sometimes requires engagement with the culture in various ways. That includes addressing when and where appropriate societal topics. It's not easy, comfortable, or fun. But it's necessary if we are to be light and salt. Know what I'm sayin'?

This is by far and away the best discussion on the stated 'confessions' in the book I've ever heard. This book should be mandatory reading for Christians, especially teens and college age Christians. Something I realised about marriage recently: God brought Adam and Eve together in union before the fall. So if you think about it, marriage is a model of what the world was like when it was perfect. Yes, marriages today aren’t perfect (as a result of the fall), but what marriage is fundamentally stems from pre-fall conditions. Which makes marriage even more sacred in my opinion.

This was just wonderful in many ways - so biblical. There is such an disproportionate emphasis on women submitting versus men loving like Christ that it’s a shame (and I am all for biblical submission and I’m married to an incredibly humble and kind husband who loves me beautifully). I also love the reminder that ALL relationships are just as important and can be just as deep as a marriage relationship. Marriage can be over glorified and disproportionally emphasized as well. And to the detriment of many. Just love biblical discussions.

Religions that we, in the Western world,often think of as masochistic are in some ways a lot more respectful to women than in the western world. For an example, a man who wants to marry a woman has to prove himself worthy. The man has to go through tough trials to prove to himself to the woman’s father to prove himself worthy of being her husband. Then the marriage and the wedding is a huge deal to the family and is treated as very sacred. This is the level of sacred that God treats his church; his people, his children, his “bride”.

I cried at the part when she spoke about the metaphor of marriage and how the husband is called to lay down his life for his life. Its beautiful. I grew up with parents and sadly their marriage did not reflect this biblical metaphor. My mother sacrificed herself and I cant say i saw my earthly father doing the same. Their unsuccessful marriage affected me and probably had something to do with me engaging same sex relationships when I was younger. But by the grace of God I overcame that battle and now I'm married to a man who I can say loves me in a way I could have never imagined... I cried because I identified it as what this lady has said about the metaphor. Thank you for shedding that beautiful metaphor and wisdom regarding marriage... it makes me so much more grateful to God for providing above and beyond my expectations 🙏🏽

Sidenote, I also work for one of the very large woke companies who promote all of this. I do not have to participate in any of it other than the diversity, equity, and inclusion training… More and more, I think we desperately need practical tools to understand where the other side is coming from so that we can speak The truth In love in ways that will draw them in rather than push them away.. I will give the company I work for major props however, that while they do many things I do not agree with & will not participate in or promote… They do also have a wonderful variety of employee resource groups. Of course there is pride and all the rest… But there is also a Christian group and it is promoted as much as any of the other resource groups. Employees are actually free to speak about their faith in the workplace without fear of retribution.

I recently read an article from "Premier Christianity" a 'Christian' magazine from the UK and I was surprised to find an article titled, "As a gay Christian, here’s how I’m marking Pride." by David Bennett from June, 10th 2021. I suppose I probably shouldn't be so surprised since I know that a lot of the secular world beliefs continue to be mixed up with the biblical truth of the gospel. Still I was disappointed to discover this article since the Magazine itself includes some great content. I guess this is just another reminder how the individual Christian life is constantly being tested and 'on their toes'. This also serves as a reminder of just how important it is to teach the youth the real truth before their minds are changed by the worlds standards. These are definitely wild times we are living through, as a child I would have never expected this to be the future circumstances of my adult life now. Pray for the children, young adults and the grown and confused generations.

Are you in the habit of going to men's conferences or reading books for men and husbands? Try it and you'll hear that message all over the place. However, who in this culture is actually pushing back against their responsibility in marriage? Men NOT wanting to love their wives as Christ loves the church? OR...women who think submission is oppressive, wrong, and/or not applicable anymore? It's mainly the latter.

I am getting the book. As a young women 40 years go. I left church because I saw love among gay friends and not in the church. I was a critical atheist particularly of fundermentalist attitude toward same sex love. I can now see that a central issue was poor communication of the gospel and ignorance the focus was often soley on damnation. It is pride month and this is the first time I am not celebrating and partying. So as a new believer my question is What would Jesus do in Pride month ? I think he would start the campaign that I am about launching as a fundermentalist bible following christian. I keep hearing Christian say we love the person but not the sin. My question to myself is what does that look like. Is it just word or is action required. The Campaign I am launching and asking the fundermentalist church to help in. I believe will demonstrate Jesus love for those who are Gay. Today I found out about the suffering of a Gay man from central africa who is under a death threat because he has come out about his sexuality in his community. He is currently caught up in the Ukrainian Russian conflict and has been gang raped and brutalised and the danger to him is increasing daily. My friend is a non Christian and a social justice activist and with a broken heart she has bought this young man's plight to my attention. I have prayed and i can now see that As a Christian i am commission to both show love and to preach the gospel the two go together always. Social justice is a fundermental Christian command I think because that is what Jesus did. He help prostitute and he preached. A Gay man is asking for help he needs immediate assistance and protect and safe passage from , death , sexual abuse and Ayslum Please pray and then assist as directed by the spirit. if you can as God want us to not only speak his truth but show it in the action of Godly love for those who despise us. I really believe that God wants us to be at the centre of social Justice so that People can see who is really Justice and who is really love. I have been a Christian for 3 month and the mircle of God in how he has liberated me makes me know that nothing is impossible with God and he has a response both word and Action.

If we see the earth as a mere shadow of God's kingdom, then when Paul is talking about the husband and wife relationship he is explaining that Christ is the husband, the bridegroom who loves us so much He sacrificed His life for us, and the bride, which are the followers of Christ should submit, meaning be obedient to Christ. Remember that Jesus said He did not come to abolish His Father's laws, but to fulfill prophesy. The laws of God are in effect and have not been nullified as many new age churches teach. Knowing the Old Testament is just as important as knowing the New Testament. On earth as it is in heaven.

Slavery was not a race issue! It was an economics issue! White people have been slaves too in other countries.

That's true, but I think Africans may have been "selected" by Whites because racists saw these Blacks, who looked so different from Whites, as higher-intelligence "animals" to be molded into trainable workers. It's a horrible thought process to get there but literally, the devil is in the details. It is also known that some Africans eagerly took money from slave traders for their fellow Africans, so it's an extremely complex issue, all rooted in hell.

In Africa today different groups are enslaving people, using women as sex slaves, using young children as soldiers. The same is happening in the Middle East. If you want to combat slavery, don't look where it does not exist (Western World) look at where it does thrive today (Africa and Middle East). Slavery is NOT a black and white issue. Slavery is currently mostly an African, Asian, And Middle Eastern issue TODAY. Europeans were treated way worse by Arabs, who took them as slaves, women as sex slaves, forced them to pay taxes based on race.... And the atrocities of slavery in Africa today among various "black" groups makes the Slavery of the USA look like a day at a country fair.

I really liked the illustration of Jesus as the ultimate example of what a marriage relationship between a man and a woman should like like, with the full understanding, but not excuse that none of us other than He is perfect. We are called to follow Him, even if we cannot do so perfectly. It has always been my understanding that Christians, Christianity played a large part in both the Abolitionist movement in the UK and the US. But I would be remiss to not add that some, calling themselves Christian actually used Almighty God's Word to justify Slavery/Jim Crow Laws. Of course we know that our Triune God never turns a blind eye to any sin, confession and repentance is always a very good idea for the sinner, and that is of course all of us! I believe that no person is responsible for another persons sin!

Throughout history Christianity has ebbed and flowed, when it lost its saltiness, evil abounds, when it is the flow of the Spirit, it transforms the culture. The tide has being going out on Christianity for 150+ years, ever since the teachings of Darwin, Marx, Freud and Kinsey. Black lives suffered because of the inherent racism of Darwinism, it was a Christian who fought for the status of the black rights.

Interesting, I’m a white Christian and never think of my tribe as white Christians. It sounds strange to me. Maybe from growing up in SoCal, whereas she came from the land where she is indigenous. Or maybe being American, I’m a mix of a few so-called tribes. If anything, I think of committed Christian brothers and sisters as my tribe.

You shouldn't think of yourself that way. White, Black, Asian... these are not tribes. These are terms used to divide people. There's no substance in calling yourself white. In fact, there is no such thing as while. Many Asians are more white-skinned than many Europeans. There's no such thing as a White person, or a Black person. We all descend from various tribes and people groups that make us much more interesting.

Love this interview, Becket. "Being gay is like being black". I really liked how she clarified that our capacity for sin does not dictate that we MUST sin. Very, very solid argument. Homosexuality is completely different from the color of your skin.♥️🇨🇦

I would like to offer at least an explanation to the accusations we as Christian Americans often get regarding "how could those people in the American South call themselves Christians and own slaves?". This often leaves good people at a loss for anything to say, it shuts down dialogue. From what i can tell from my readings as an amateur historian, many 18th & 19th century Christians, particularly the Presbyterians, knew slavery was wrong, but in their minds it was the lesser of 2 evils when it came to saving the souls of Africans. They were familiar with the social practices in Africa, which to Western sensibilities seemed barbaric, such as infanticide and murdering people due to beliefs in hexes and spells, etc...plus they knew slavery was being practiced in and among and between the African tribes themselves, so these early Christians involved in slavery felt that, well they can be enslaved there in Africa (the majority of slaves purchased were already slaves) or here in America, and at least we can Christianize them and save their souls and keep them from eternal judgment and Hellfire. Please know I am not offering this as a justification, but merely an angle that often isn't considered. We have to work to put ourselves into the context of the people back then and not graft our 21st century ideas onto them. Again, not justifying or watering down (need to say this over and over), but we need to examine the motivation that given the choice of leaving people to damnation (in their minds) or offering salvation through Christ, they chose to "save" them. I live in coastal Georgia, and we have real people in our history here who bear this out. There was a Presbyterian man named Jonathan Bryan who at first had his slaves attending his church, but wanted them to have their own church to manage themselves, so he sent one of his slaves off to be educated in theology to run the church, and many of the slaves in this area could read and write enough to be literate in the Bible. Jonathan Bryan was very proud of this. The oldest black church in the area was the result. Again, let me say this is not a dismissal, justification or anything of the sort, I just wish we could study and discuss this issue in a more rational and calm way without people making assumptions for just bringing it up. The people who gave Jonathan Bryan a hard time about his "literate" slaves and their church were the NON-slaveowning white people. I believe Bryan truly believed he was being a good Christian at the time in the era in which he lived. Whether he was or not is not for me to say, but I do think it is more productive to take a deeper look and examine history rather than knee-jerk emotional reactions.

I do get you its just unfortunate the atrocities that occurred during the Jim Crow era were even worse, but the cries of the 'African-Americans' who have a standard of living better than 2/3rds of the rest of the world is hollow to me as there seems little interest in the slavery that continues in other parts of the world (including Africa).....though as the church dwindles in the West it is exploding in other nations.

Your questions are always so good in getting down to the meat and potatoes, so to speak, of the book in which you are referring to. Unfortunately I felt Rebecca was not as clear in her answers. And though some of her tangents were informative and intellectual, they didn’t always hit the nail on the head with getting to your question. I am interested in the books she wrote, however, and will likely glean more information from those. Thanks, Beckett!
