Thank you. Steven...just cleaned my oil boiler after watching this video...couldn't find any suitable brushes on a sunday but found something as good if not better...a plastic hair clog remover from home depot that fit nicely in the heat exchanger and in an hour boiler was clean happy and no more black smoke...lucky for me the soot was soft and powdery...thank you again

Excellent video Steve. you cleaned that boiler really good. Yesterday I was on a oil boiler call .The entire fire box was gone. The beckett gun had massive water in it because the boiler was cracked leaking water everywhere.

Yeah that's what I told him. I am not able to do the change out because I am not a licensed plumber. However I recommended my friend who is one.

Steve, I've got the same problem. I've been remodeling my house and living in my In law apt it's not from the same heat source. I didn't notice until I just happened to look at my chimney and didn't like the looks of the dark smoke coming out. Well long story short I got injured and the progress on the house has been slow due to finance issues of not working because of 3 surgeries on my neck. I finally got to the point where I have the plastering taking place. It's obviously freezing here in MA and needed to give the guys some heat. After new up to date f....codes all new ductwork..It seemed to run perfectly for a few days when turned on in almost 1 year. It was always cleaned properly in the past. Once I had seen the chimney..I took the vacuum and even a toothbrush and cleaned what I consider ODD. The vents at this time going to the chimney is when I noticed some very little soot so I cleaned that area. The next day I'm really sick with the flu my daughter comes over to do some laundry and tells me the furnace is covered with soot. So I told her to shut it off. I'm not sure if I possibly did something moved, clogged when cleaning replacing air filter..?? Please tell me other than calling my oil delivery man to come out and f me over again as he has 3times in the past. I'll start cleaning it up tomorrow and wondering if you could give me a little guidance on where to start. Where do I get parts for this furnace? It's basically the same setup that you just worked on. Thanks again for sharing your video. Better yet please come over and help me please! A single female in distress.

nice video stev. l just replacing my oil furnish indoor and outdoor unit ( Bryant brand) with beckett oil burner last year in May. so this fast view month was the first winter for the unit. and last week when l change new air filter which l always do every month. l saw black soot around my furnace and outside the air duck. did you think is unusually for brand new unit to have problem this early.???? l need your advice please. l do still have the warranties on the unit and also 1year labor warranty. l don't know what could go wrong with such us new unit., considering before l never have problem with the old unit, except leaking Freon during summer and not energy efficiency. please l need your advice, what should l do,? thank you.

Nice work Steve. I wonder how long it would have run rich like that if it had been a chimney vented unit? The owner probably wouldn't have noticed the excess soot. What's your opinion on those newer Weil Mclain boilers? Seems like an easy unit to clean but I've read mixed reviews on them.

Thanks for sharing. What cause boilers to produce soot? Also what is the name of that jagged edge knife you used to rake out the soot?
@stevenlavimoniere9 жыл бұрын
keith richards lack of air and to much oil .will cause soot..a bad nozzle,bad motor .bad pump a lot of thinks can make a boiler soot up .the cleaning devise i use is called a soot saber...

Steven, it absolutely kills me that some of your customers call in the middle of winter, knowing that they should have had their burners cleaned every year and roll the dice and hope to get 2-3 years out of a cleaning!! It just makes your job that much more difficult performing a double cleaning, or an after hours service call that could have been prevented. One more thing. Don't forget your Saturday Vlog to your "loyal subs" like me!!

Was it the crappy head design?
@Dicofol19 жыл бұрын
Generally what causes a small ignition delay than normal with a small kind of explosion on the ignition for my oil burner, the electrodes or the transformer ?
@thomascoolberth26485 жыл бұрын
Primary control. Will delay ignition, allowing everything to get up to speed.
@CL-ty6wp2 жыл бұрын
Atomized oil sitting in the chamber (low or no draft) and not being ignited instantly (electrodes out of spec, broke insulators or sooted connection to transformer and or weak transformer). Not a tech but my guess from experience. Turning down oil pump pressure and pushing the gun deeper might also help with the violent ignition.

You should do a video on the different heads and draw assemblies. And when to use a low fire baffle.
