Had this issue on a customer's Riello burner on a Buderus recently. First time customer. I set everything back to factory spec that Riello calls for on that boiler. Some doofus left the pump pressure at 150psi when it should've been 185. No wonder it wasn't firing off right. Always trust the factory specs!

Occasionally you'll have one that doesn't run well at the factory specs. My father's old house had a System 2000 with a Beckett. Called for a .85x70A nozzle. Would bang like crazy starting up. Changed to a .85x70SS, semi solid. Super quiet, no banging, no rumble. Traced the issue to the high draft pulling the flame off the spray cone. The semi solid ran with a more stable flame and gave better combustion numbers as well. That boiler called for no barometric damper anywhere, a bit weird. At my mother's house she has an old Metromatic furnace with a Beckett SR burner. Way oversized for the house. House is only 1000sq ft and furnace is rated for 1 GPH. It has way undersized plenum and return and runs at 800 degree stack temps with a 1 GPH nozzle. I downfired it to a Hago 0.50x80B running at 140psi, and an F0 head on the Beckett SR. Now it runs 400 degree stack temps, no CO, perfect 12% CO2. But that was an issue because of the installation, not because of the appliance itself. It was massively oversized for the house and the ductwork. The other situation is old equipment that doesn't get good combustion numbers at 100psi pressure. I raise them to 140-150 and downsize the nozzle to match the original firing rate.

@@theodorgiosan2570 yeah I mean not 100% of systems you run into will act weird at factory spec due to weird circumstances, but the vast majority of them should run fine. I freaking hate System 2000 😆

Mine was delaying, it'd start up, hesitate for a second, and then start up and stay fired up like nothing happened. Popped open the transformer and one of the springs was laying in the tube. I'm surprised it ran with only one spring contacting the electrodes. Replaced it and has ran fine ever since. Appreciate your videos been watching for years.

Surprised the transformer had that much spark in it to jump the missing spring

I’ve always had good luck with 75.70 nozzles. Compared to old school 80 degree . I had random locks out . Electrode had hairline crack couldn’t see . It drove me crazy I reset it boombayah fires up every time. I changed electrodes . No more Monday morning call 😅

i had to change my nozzle the other day, had bad flame so it would trip out. fuel flow and pressure was good so i changed the nozzle and it works good once again.

I got a used nozzle wrench . I could give you. Eye balling the gap I got a electrode plastic slide on gap setter. It gives you a base and something to hold on to. The blue one is the best. Wonder if they still make them 🤔 I can’t wait till you do video when customer tells ya they only hit reset a couple times. I blew a chimny cap off roof when I got it to light 💡 then he said a couple is 10 .

The pros seem to use the electrodes made of hard steel while homeowners opt for Home Depot electrodes made of softer steel that cuts off ends like butter with snips.

Intermittent problems suck.... they never happen when you're working on them. Not finding an obvious problem is super frustrating!

Yup. On those types of service calls, I'll have the client walk me through exactly what they do when they experience the issue (not applicable in this case of course). I was called to fix a door not closing properly before, and I wasn't able to find an issue. I then had the client close the door, and they slammed it and it wouldn't latch for them. Had similar issues with faucets, computer repairs, etc, where for me it works fine but when I watch the client perform the action, they do something different than normal that causes the issue.

Steve doesn't always change them . If it was just a tune up he would adjust and reuse them too. I think he changed them this time to be safe.

He short cycled it on and off , with no heat in chamber the residue oil sprayed on back wall causes this smoke you see. Those peerless wbv 3 section boilers like shorter flame A or W nozzle.
