Great Job ! Im a beginner in the field, Is that correct that having a delay valve and light up right away …. I guess the burner has a R8184 A
@tylersimpson-g5s5 күн бұрын
there should be a 15 second delay to establish a good draft with a delayed oil solenoid and if it lights off right away then the primary control is bad because that is where the timer is being set from and what is controlling the burner circuit

I used to have a house in Asheboro North Carolina that had a furnace with one of those things. I hated it because every time they brought Me oil, it gave trouble. Unfortunately My tank was full of rust. I don't live there now, so that house is somebody else's problem now.
@craigharding4753 жыл бұрын
I see...the oil pumped-in probably stirred-up a lot of sludge from the bottom and the furnace sucked it in. When I fill my tank, I shut the furnace down and give the tank a few hours for the crap to settle to the bottom. Sometimes, the oil company does not flush-out their truck tank and they add sludge!

I do not miss working on oil. One was REALLY nasty. It had "puffed back" and sooted up house. I went up there, tore down the burner, checked oil supply, spark transformer, changed nozzle and fired it back up Worked OK. Decided to check pump pressure. Did so, reconnected everything, fired it back up. Had great draft, exchanger seemed clean, fire looked great. House remodel resulted in wall quite close to front, you had to lean on wall and lean over to look into inspection door. I propped it up with wrench and had my mirror out, It had been firing maybe a minute just great when it puffed back again. WHAM I had my glasses on, otherwise...............................Owner had been thinking of converting to high efficiency gas (L/P for them there) and that was IT. Never found the cause. I asked the crew to dump the old one at the shop so I could diagnose it further, but they took it to scrap. Crew said they found nothing in chimney. This was in the late 80's

An electronic transformer can’t be tested by jumping the arc across the electrodes. It shorts it out. However, there are only so many cycles those transformers run before they Peter out and don’t work anymore. Just like you Steve, I hate them as well. Good work

My parents built their house 67 years ago, My brother now owns it , the furnace has a beckett system on the hot water baseboard, its all original system, just new nozzles every few years. Its not very practical system. He will have to decide.

Thanks, man! I wondered what it was. I just paid $600 for a service call and one of those. I am glad I did not try to test it. How DO you test one? (electronic transformer)
@JE278983 жыл бұрын
@@craigharding475 They make a tester. Or you can use a multimeter. Depending on how old one is determines if I test or just replace. Generally if you have oil at the drawer assembly, the nozzle is good, and the motor runs, it’s time for the transformer to be replaced.

After 50 years of working on oil-fired heating systems in Alaska you can't possibly properly tune an oil burner without an analyzer you need to know your flue-gas temperature the O2 and your efficiency otherwise you're not treating your customer properly and you're going to have issues with the burner
