An infrared heater might do the trick. I put one on my daughter's bedroom ceiling and it's great! Silent. Feels like sunlight. Mounts flat to the ceiling and only a 1/2" thick.

As a kid, we had a room like this called a "veranda" (probably incorrect term). Like Chris said, when it rains or thunders, it's the most amazing and calming place to be (and I usually fell asleep there).
