Literally none of this matters, you could take the easiest classes, get into the cheapest community college then transfer to your state school, and as long as you have a good GPA and LSAT you could get into a top law school

Learning to Bluebook is one of the most important skills I learned in school. Proper legal writing is such a necessary and sought after skill; a solid writing sample shows you can write concisely yet informatively and can be what puts you above someone who may have better grades but weak writing skills during recruiting.

Hi Maya, My name is Justin. I’ve never really given a careen in law much thought in the past, but lately I’ve been considering it. I’m currently an entry level employee for a major company in my area that offers full tuition for employees in relevant fields. I believe this is an awesome opportunity for me to get my foot in the door to a fantastic career without destroying the bank. I just want to make sure my heads in the right place. I’ve been told I should be a lawyer more than a few times in the past, sometimes facetiously, and others genuinely. This is usually based on my enjoyment of digging into semantics and logic of things, and also that I generally enjoy a good argument. I also actually enjoy analyzing language and often find myself considering how something could have been written better or more specifically. I’m hoping that maybe you could shed some light on what led you to become a lawyer, if this isn’t covered in another video. Did you struggle with this decision, and what kind of classes did you enjoy in school prior to college? Thanks so much for any response! Justin

Well done. I am a UK Solicitor. I use to work in the Corporate Law field but it wasn't for me. I didn't feel challenged. The money was good but my clientele were corporate and I wanted to face people and solve their problems. I do that now and yes you can make that amount of money and more in 'Private Practice'. This is great advice and it's so important to work hard and come out tops. It gives the best of options. All the best in all you do !!! God's blessings.

I’ve gotten those same accusations of being “elitist” when I point out the importance of going to a prestigious school IF someone wants a 6 figure legal career. I personally don’t care about rankings and won’t look at anyone differently based on the law school they graduated from, BUT the legal market does care, that’s just a fact.

I’m not the video creator but 80 hour weeks aren’t necessarily uncommon in big law, and most people go corporate cuz of the money. The money difference between corporate and litigation is very significant. People getting into corporate law can start out at 200k, those who are not start much lower

pft ya right, doctors don't even make 200k starting. How is a lawyer going to make 200k starting. That's a bunch of garbage. Doctor's are the highest paid professionals, so lawyers making 200k start was laughable.

A corporate lawyer in big law makes $190K a year base, not counting bonus. The bonus is $12K, putting the total first year income at $202K. Next time you are clearly out of your depth, I recommend books or google.

Maha Maven thanks for replying, I thought you would because I know that corporate law involves business, and there’s a bit of maths in business.

No problem! In corporate you work on the legal aspects-SEC filings, bylaws, contracts, agreements, etc.

First and foremost, if you are an attorney; maybe you should consider how to spell especially in titles. I'm out!

Yes, there is an unfortunate typo. However, having worked at a few top global law firms - I can tell you that she is very spot on with her other information. Another thing, while many newbies are gobsmacked at the starting salaries - one has to remember the current expenses you have, and will incur during your time as a lawyer within a top notch law firm. Your student loans; your upscale wardrobe, your upscale vehicle, your upscale jewelry; your upscale lifestyle in general (whether you can or cannot afford it) WILL take a big chunk out of it. In other words - ya gonna be "flossing" it for quite awhile - maybe for 5 years before you have a chance to even become a partner within the firm. Don't forget, one will probably have a family sometime between those years - MONEY will be tight. You are gonna have to keep up with the JONES - no ifs, ands, or buts. It will kill you when you take the amount of hours you will be required to work AND actually be able to bill (2,000 plus hrs.) and see how it breaks down to X amount of dollars - you will GLARE at your legal secretary when you compare how much she makes per hour, compared to you😉

@@mybackyardparrots9198 great points. Furthermore, most associates don't last past 5 years. Some are laid off, fired, or pushed out when told they aren't likely to make partner. So even the lucky ones who get big law should not get comfortable and spend like crazy.
