Companies dont see excel as an analist tool. Python, SQL and PowerBI are unfortunately key words and mandatory experiences.

Absolutely, you need those skills too, but you MUST start with Excel, otherwise you'll be handicapped. And you can still start out as an analyst with just Excel skills and build from there.

Yeah but data analyst jobs always seem to add ….strong writing skills, process mapping, provide insights. I have created a data job for myself at my work , strong at power query and SQL ok at VBA, pure extraction (like writing code but no patience for grammar) but I’m very ad hoc ….have never seen a job ad that I am suited to

Absolutely. These skills aren't in isolation to anything else, but they're essential and even if you don't become a pure data analyst, as you've found, these skills are transferrable to other types of work as well, opening up many more opportunities.

Is there a globally recognised certification for D.A., like there is CISCO for Networking?

Great question. Not that I'm aware of. It's a vast topic, and you can specialise with different tools and languages, so I'd say probably not. I know Microsoft have a Power BI certificate, and of course there are Excel certificates, and most likely Python and other languages, but not one that combines everything.

Wish Excel and intermediate knowledge of SQL was enough to enter the job market today....Everyone now wants you to be a swiss army knife and now every single damn technology in-depth. Excel,SQl,Python,Tableau,Power Bi. It's all too tiresome. I get thats those are essential tools but I really doubt an entry level employee is asked to use all those. Resumes just go into the void.

Somehow, in my case IF function worked only when I replaced comma with semicolon. Maybe, it depends on personal settings in Excel. Thanks for the interesting practice, Mynda!

Another gem of a video I must say... since I haven't been working for quite a while now and this popped up, I gave this a go as a refresher (and my new learning module) for both Excel and Power BI, and the exercises are simple to follow. Or perhaps I'm just able to absorb things because I'm bored lol Thank you again Mynda for these free videos! Not only formulas and functions is for when you don't have to update data but also some times you have to extend information. A formula or function can only be extended so far.

AI is great, but it can only work with perfectly formatted data. Data just isn't like that a lot of the time. And while it will be able to help with cleaning data, it's still a way off having zero human intervention.
