I don't know that Jake ever claimed to be a master and it bother me that there are many people with negative comments on this video. He may not focus on a single style or form and he may never truly "master" any of it but it doesn't matter. As long as his videos inspire someone interested in any form of martial arts he has done some good in this world. I am a beginner and know next to nothing; however I believe all you "masters" who appear to be commenting should be thanking him if even one person sees this video and chooses to learn more either on their own or with the help of another. Please remember that whenever you try to flaunt your experience some who knows much more than you is watching and shaking their head in shame. The point is to never stop learning and I thank Jake for making that just a little bit easier for anyone who watches one of his videos.

The only things I care about are 1) Can he keep someone from taking his head by using his "skill" 2) Can he teach others to do the same?. Answer--I see something paper-thin and useless.

Wow, imagine how you would feel then if you were learning REAL tai chi! Hahahahaa - I could give corrections all day long on this guy, from his dragging his feet (which is considered quite rude and lazy by Chinese masters), to his waist (dan tien) not turning at all, and his overall 'connectiveness' which does not exist. But then I would be teaching HIM! And he should pay ME - even for those tips. ( now watch, his next video will have those corrections )

Physical movements are not even necessary. However, as long as one has a physical form, that physical form is built a certain way and can benefit from movement, and there is such a thing as body mechanics and the physics and biology of the body.

Wow, thanks for the video. I was just fooling around in my apartment on my break (I work from home), and I realised the goofy moves I was doing to relax were basically Tai chi. So pretty much out of no where I realised I need to pick this skill up. Funny thing is though that I didn't even know what Tai Chi was until I looked it up just now. But I had a hunch it was for what I wanted.

At least he's spreading a positive and a healthy message. The rest of the so called experts who are trying to bring him down by spitting their negativism are far away from the Tao themselves. As the Tai Chi classics mention: "Ignore the so called experts, just practice, practice, practice...." and if you practice those exercices mentioned for years and years, you might master them one day...

Cont..d My point is The title states. Become a master in 5 steps NOT 5 minutes. I think Jake explains the exercises in a very precise way. HE MAY HAVE PUT HIS OWN MARK ON SOME PARTS, but executes them very well. He is obviously focused and dedicated to the arts and what is wrong with studying as many as you can. there are many who struggle learning just one form. According to Chinese scriptures. You never stop learning so why knock a guy who may or may not be a master at any one form. Take your negative remarks and put them just where they should be put !!!??

Jake, there is no secret to Taijiquan mastery. Only hard work will enable one to approach. I have played Taijiquan for over 25 years. You should work on your torso, as silk reeling is pointless to attempt without torso movement. I applaud your attempt to help others though. The 8 pieces of brocade is not Taijiquan along, you should know this. Try getting one of your dogs to be a sparing partner. Your stance will need to be quite low though. Don't laugh, my wolf was THE best sparing partner I've ever had. Tremendous for developing sensitivity trading. Use the dog that you consider smartest, and best at adapting. I would try the pit because of jaw pressure, the closet of your dogs to a wolf.

Sifu Jake Mace, ..BTW this is excellent to motivate people to do it by keeping it simple for beginners and non martial artist..... I know you yourself had studied more in depth.. cauz it takes one to know one. In some Chinese culture, real experts are hidden dragons very soft and loving on the outside like cotton but like steel on the inside. You exemplify this... when a person gets older if they do not keep the internal organs and emotional baggage do matter how good of a fighter they are their joints will start getting rusty. and they can get even more critical and pissed off easily than when they are young. Here is my take on Tai Chi which is not easy... Like Disney 's Bambi's best friend Thumper was forced to say, "My daddy always said, if you don't have anything good to say .. don't say anything at all." if we keep that principle we will not age biologically like those who are critical.. btw "when you were 19 in China" you look around nineteen now..... fantastic result of good internal training.

There is a difference between simple (what does this even mean?) and wrong. This is wrong. This is not Tai Chi.

1) Find a master. 2) Get him to agree to teach you by showing you want to earnestly learn. 3) Practice and learn with him for 6 days a week. 4) Test what you are learning to make sure it works. 5) Don't use books and videos until you have a foundation of understanding. I think it's great that Jake is spreading awareness of tai chi but to master tai chi takes many years of diligent training under a master.

Why are some of the comments so mean, why haters? This is just a segment of the information he provides. Tai Chi for some can be a challenge, for others easy. I am one of those that struggle, but the videos I have watched from Jake are easy to understand and when he gets intense I am amazed. The world has so much hate these days, how about changing the channel if you don't like something (there is plenty out there). Keep working it, Jake, and ignore the haters because they will hate no matter what they watch.
