Mentality is just as important as physicality. The reason Real Madrid was known for comebacks, and Spain for their composed play style was because Casillas acted like the game was level even when they were losing. I like to tell myself that it's still 0-0 even when we are losing.
@GroundGloryGoalkeeping3 ай бұрын
That’s such a great mindset! You’re absolutely right-mentality is just as crucial as physicality, especially in high-pressure situations. Casillas is a perfect example of staying calm and composed no matter the score. Telling yourself it’s still 0-0 is a great way to keep focused and avoid letting the pressure get to you. Thanks for the tip 💪🧤

@HlulaniPraise-nd1he3 ай бұрын
@@GroundGloryGoalkeeping thanks bro. One last thing. What is the thing you do or tell yourself before a striker shoots. Of course you have to be in your ready position in the perfect place closing the angle down. Then what is next? Do you just keep reminding yourself in your mind that you have to react quickly to the ball? Or you remind yourself to just look at how the ball is coming and decide if you will just do a collapse dive, maybe a one step shuffle and a dive, or maybe just a step and a dive? I know this might sound weird... But I'm just trying to know cause sometimes I perform good and sometimes I perform very very bad. Maybe it's my mindset of how I prepare myself before the oncoming shot.
@GroundGloryGoalkeeping3 ай бұрын
That’s a great question, and it doesn’t sound weird at all! What you’re talking about is something a lot of goalkeepers think about. Your mindset and preparation before a shot can make a big difference in how you perform. Here’s what I do and what you can try: Stay calm and focused: The key is to remain relaxed but alert. If you’re too tense, it’s harder to react quickly. I focus on keeping my breathing steady and staying calm while looking at the striker and the ball. Read the ball and body language: Before the shot, I focus on the ball and the striker’s body language (especially their plant foot and hips). This helps me get clues about where the ball might go. Trust your instincts: Once I’m in position, I try not to overthink. It’s important to trust your training and instincts. Yes, you can think about the type of dive (collapse dive, one-step, etc.), but it should be more instinctive. Overthinking can slow down your reaction time. Try to clear your mind as much as possible. React, don’t guess: I tell myself to react to the ball, not guess. As soon as you see the shot being taken, your body should just respond. Sometimes you’ll dive early, and sometimes it’s about waiting a split second longer to read the shot properly. It's all about how your defenders are positioned: if it's a central shot, you hope your defenders cover one side so you can have the other. If it's an angled shot, and you're in a good position, I try to wait as a long as possible but it's already quite difficult to score. It might help to focus less on doing everything “perfectly” and more on staying present in the moment. Trust your training, stay calm, and let your instincts take over. Your mindset going into the shot can definitely impact your performance, so practicing staying relaxed and confident is key. Keep working at it - you’ll find consistency as you go! 💪⚽🧤

Haha, I get you! 😂 Indoor with walled nets definitely changes the game a bit, and yeah, hearing 6' being called short can be tough, especially when you’re under 5'10". But remember, height isn’t everything in goalkeeping. Plenty of shorter keepers have excelled because they focus on technique, agility, and positioning. @GroundGloryGoalkeeping3 ай бұрын
At 5'7" at 15 years old, you're not too short at all! There’s plenty of time to grow, and even if you stay around that height, you can still be a fantastic goalkeeper. It’s all about using your strengths, like agility and positioning. For playing out from the back, confidence comes with practice. Here are a few tips to help with short passes: Work on technique: Focus on accuracy and control in training by practicing short passes with your defenders. The more you practice, the more confident you’ll become in games. Stay calm: Don’t rush your decision. Take an extra second to assess your options before making the pass. If the short pass isn’t on, then it’s okay to send it long. Communicate: Let your defenders know where you want them to be so they can give you easy passing options. Keep practicing, and soon playing short will feel natural. You’ve got this! 💪⚽🧤

@GroundGloryGoalkeeping3 ай бұрын
At 5'5", being shorter than some goalkeepers doesn’t have to be a problem - plenty of great keepers have succeeded despite not being the tallest. It’s all about using your strengths. Here’s what you can focus on: Agility: Shorter keepers often have an advantage when it comes to quick footwork and agility. Use your speed to get into the right positions faster than taller keepers might. Positioning: Master your positioning to cover the goal efficiently. If you’re in the right spot, you can compensate for the height difference and make those crucial saves. Explosiveness: Work on jumping and diving explosiveness so you can cover high shots and crosses. Plyometric exercises can really help with this. Confidence: Play with confidence and command your area. Height is just one part of goalkeeping - your ability to read the game, communicate, and react is just as important. At the end of the day, it’s about how you use what you’ve got. Keep working hard, and don’t let height hold you back - you’ve got this! 💪🧤⚽
