Awesome. Years ago. When I couldn't find an NES Mini without paying outrageous scalper prices. I assembled a homemade Raspberry Pi W retro system in a hollowed out NES cartridge. Still have it to this day. Nowadays, I prefer cheap, slim factor Windows PCs from last decade for retro builds. Throw in an SSD with a Batocera image loaded with emulators and games. Alongside a low profile graphics card that you can find for next to nothing on eBay. You're good to go.

Awesome! Agree, Batocera is great. It's strange that there's not a version of Retropie on their website, even though the 5 has been out for almost a year now, I think. At least this is good for a holdover until an official build comes out.

I like the Raspberry Pi Zero 2W with the Argon pod case and HDMI Hub. I use the Nacon wired compact Playstation controller. I need another controller though.

Love your dedication to all things retro... I've been a long time sub and always watch your videos. Quick question about this setup. Found an rom archive that's pretty big once all fully downloaded but should these stay zipped or unzipped. Or better yet can you list which retro system emulators need their roms in the zip format or the unzipped format?

Thank you! Very kind of you to say! Yes, you can leave the ROMs zipped up. Retropie/RetroArch will unzip them when they're launched, and it'll save a lot of space on your USB drive. Enjoy!

Retrobat rocks. It's super powerful and easy to set up. I did a video on it right before this one. I'm loving the setup on my Win 11 PC.

Batocera or Retrobat for me much better as Retropie. Very easy and works out of the box.

Yeah, this one is specific to the RPi 5, as there's not a "turn key" version on the Retropie site for it. There's one for the 4/400 but it didn't load on the Pi 5. This at least gives those interested a holdover method until an official build is made.

hey i have an dell chrombook 16gb build in 32xbits i can use flashed usb batocera but can i use batocera as main OS on dell chrombook is there way like a Linux version or something do you have any idea

I don't think so. Under the hood, this actually is a Linux version, so to speak. Its underpinnings are Linux based. I had to build the microSD image using Linux Terminal commands, for example. I think it'd be cool to see one for Chromebooks, though.

I know what you mean. For now, this one will get you most of the way there, minus the ROMs and BIOS files. But they're out there and easy enough to get. I hear there's an "Archive" on the "Internet" that might aid in your search. :)
