I am extremely blessed by several people who live out the Golden Rule in their lives. Elizabeth and Ray, especially as they are so willing to give me lifts here and there and are always giving of their time and money to anyone who needs it.

My friend Jim Werner lives the Golden Rule on the regular. He visits the sick, mows the lawn of the widow, volunteers at the church, hosts dinners to introduce people. Every morning M-F I wake up to John and Tim who deliver GR encouragement and food for thought. I miss them (don’t want to let them die) on weekends but even they need to rest 😊.

Living by the Golden Rule looks different from person to person. I have known the kindness of strangers who did something as simple as giving me a cart at Aldi's so I didn't have to find a quarter. Neighbors in my old neighborhood actually took the lawnmower from me and finished mowing the yard on a hot, humid Ohio day. Then there are all of the people who give freely of themselves every day, like you all at Become New, so that we all can grow and learn to be more like Jesus. I think that even in this fallen world, if you pay attention, you can still see lots of evidence of the Golden Rule.

Well, it's only taken 60 or so videos, but I am looking to apply the Golden Rule in all situations. Yesterday, frustrated that my online order for a pair of military spec shoes had been canceled "by the system" for a software glitch, I had to drive from the Peninsula to the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey to buy a pair of the shoes I needed at a Navy uniform shop. I also needed a new ID card. The ID card office accepts walk-ins so I stopped there before buying the shoes. Did I feel lucky? Not really. The young woman at the desk said she could not process a walk-in for almost three more hours. I told her... with a smile... I would have to come back sometime this summer. She then offered to process my request if her 1:00 pm appointment did not show. It was 12:59 pm. No one else entered the office at the appointed time. It wasn't luck. She was very helpful and friendly. As my status had changed to "retired," it took a little longer to make changes "in the system," but everything worked out. As I got ready to leave, I asked her, "Do you go to church?" No, she didn't. I assured her that I would not be sermonizing, but I just wanted to tell her that she is living the Golden Rule... she treated me the way she would like to be treated... and that makes all the difference. I submitted an online review when I got home praising the young woman's caring professionalism and how she treats people who come into to her office. The Golden Rule works... for everyone.
